College Slice
So I got a Moza R9 and GS wheel this week, and I figure some people may be interested in hearing about the new kid on the block.

The wheel is cool as gently caress and I look forward to using it for years to come. Buttons are nice but slightly smooshy like a soft mechanical keyboard. Shifters are a pleasure to use, they're quick and crisp. Loud as gently caress though, even with the mute pads attached. The rotary knobs and dials all feel great, although ALL of the front dials fell off during the first night. Fortunately Moza was quick to respond to an email informing them of the problem. They told me to just glue them back on, which was not a big deal for me since I had epoxy resin lying around and it worked like a charm. The wheel otherwise feels very high quality, with no flex at all and well worth the money.

The wheelbase is going to take some time to win me over, but I know it will. I'm coming from ~9 months on a G29 and have never touched a DD system until I bought this one. I think it got overhyped for me, so I was expecting some sort of eureka moment but instead it just feels like I can now feel bumps and the track surface clearly, not the quantum leap everyone is talking about. I probably also had it in the back of my head that it would be some sort of silver bullet that would instantly grant me half a second a lap, which of course is wishful thinking. Regardless, I have a feeling that moving to DD will wind up being like moving to my Fanatec V3s: taking several weeks to adjust, dialing in settings, and eventually being able to make use of all the nuances I can now feel.

The weelbase itself feels very high quality. It only gets tepid to the touch during long sessions, the quick release is excellent, the pithouse software works well, and 9nm is plenty of torque. My only real complaint is no holes for sidemounting, although they do sell a bracket to allow this.

Lol

I imagine on asphalt DD is like whatever. May be why I stick to games that have poo poo roads. Jamming your tire into a hole/hitting or landing poo poo wrong owns. Would recommend just inputting ‘(wheel name) (game name) settings’ into Youtube

Got back into Dirt Rally 2.0 and consequently decided to reinstall RBR for the first time in years and years. This new installer from Rallysimfans.hu makes things really easy. One-click installs the game (it's abandonware), improved physics, new cars, new tracks. There must be like 300 or 400 tracks in here (the BTB ones seem a bit mediocre though). Still feels best out of the all the rally sims to me, especially on asphalt.

Been throwing around the Escort MK2 and it's great fun.
https://i.imgur.com/9NQRH6E.mp4

I found the MK2 works great with an FFB sensitivity of 150, modern 4WDs seem to work better with around 350-400, you can set that per car in the launcher.

e: Also here is one additional mod I recommend, which is the easiest way I found to get numerical pacenotes into the game: https://lezarbr.blogspot.com/2021/09/rbr-co-driver-mods-all-track-pacenotes.html

Now there's an idea for a season pass in racing games. Unlock various virtual rear mirror accessories through miles driven and races won. Tree, dice, truck nuts etc.

Elite Dangerous already does this for tchotchkes that you put on your ships dashboard and it definitely works.

No, I don't think so. It's 8 bucks on Humble right now though, so if you really want it buy it there.

Absolutely not worth full price these days, but it's worth it for cheap. There's a bunch of cool tracks in PCars that haven't appeared officially in other games.

Imo Pcars2 just doesn't feel great compared to automobilista2 or asetto Corsa. I dunno why the cars feel floaty then bam you're spun around. It seems like some cars feel good or some cars feel good and some cars feel like today rear end.

I refunded it back in the day because I decided that while better than 1 it still looked very much like they threw up their hands and said "we can't figure this FFB poo poo out here have some sliders, you do it... wait no we mean 'you can set it up just as you like it!'".

I always meant to get it, so I bought it for cheap from humble, but who knows if I'll ever play it. I'm still salty that they removed content from PCars 1 so they could put it in 2

Didn't it return some time ago when the Pretend Racecars dude left Slightly Mad Studios? Or was he fired - I can't remember. I only remember there was some Ian Bell related drama I didn't really follow because I quickly lose interest in Ian Bell being slightly or moderately crazy and causing drama.

I finished a full season of F1 2021, 100% race length, and in VR. I really enjoyed it a lot. Game is a lot of fun in VR, but I feel like Codemasters lied about the physics/driving model overhaul, and the VR mode will hopefully be improved for next year because it really needs it.

Stupid question I don't know where else to ask: I want to 3D print a topographical map of the Mount Panorama circuit, I have no experience with this but think if I can get the proper data a friend more experienced in 3D printing can help me. But after a couple hours of searching and trying to convert weird files to other weird files I figured maybe someone has already done this. Part of the problem I'm seeing is getting detailed enough data to get a good quality model of the mountain. Is there anyway to extract this info from iRacing or ACC that have the circuit or is it all proprietary? I figure they probably have the best data on this specific region. I see lots of 3D models of just the circuit available to buy online but I'd really like the whole landscape, and being able to highlight the track in different ways could be a nice bonus to doing my own custom one. Anyone have any suggestions?

What kind of file do you need? It's pretty easy to get the Assetto Corsa Bathurst from Reboot Team into Blender.

My understanding is .obj or .stl would be best. Is there a free software I can use to convert the AC mod? I'd like to be able to import it into Tinkercad and mess around with it.

edit: ok so turns out blender is free which is cool. I've managed to convert the .kn5 filed and get them loaded in blender, gonna see where I can go from here.

If you mean the organizational layers in Blender then no. I'm not well versed in track modding, I taught myself just about enough to smooth out or add some noise to the physical road mesh for tracks where it's too smooth or too bumpy for my liking.

AMS2 got the 1.4 update Reiza have been hyping for ages (aka The One With The Ovals) and they were right to hype it because they've basically fixed every issue I had with how the handling has evolved in it over the last 2 years. Also the oval AI is so much better than I expected, even in cars that aren't meant for ovals.

I want to kiss the AMS2 1.4 update on the lips and marry it I love it so much

EDIT: I'm also real excited because people seem to think that they're going to get some cool official IndyCar stuff, since the release of the unofficial modern car that was supposed to release today is suddenly being held off for more surprise additions
