Are you sure you're talking about RWBY? Because that didn't happen. They did have a token lesbian in Season 6 called Saffron, though.

I got the name wrong in my head. But the pun is still there.

Saphron and Terra Cotta may also refer to the ancient Greek poetess Sappho of Lesbos, so famed for her romantic attraction to women that the name of her homeland coined the term "lesbian", and her own name coined the term "sapphic". Many of her works that survived did so on terra cotta pottery shards.

Puns need to be funny. This is "Hey, why don't we make a token lesbian and literally call her "Lesbian"?". Pretty much the usual standard of laziness from the show.

Depends on how you want to do a mock thread. Do you want to target the company or the people who work in it? Because it's real easy to do them both; they make podcasts highlighting their bad decisions. Michael Jones, like all lactose white men, cannot keep himself away from cheese, for example.

I'd prefer a RWBY retrospective/analysis a la Shrieking Shack. Similar to Harry Potter, it had a huge fandom of young people who by now are old enough to reexamine it with a critical eye.

I don't really think their audience is old enough yet, and those that are already stopped watching out of the realization the show was bad.

We don't really need a retrospective anyway, we're full to bursting with internet weirdos yelling at the show episode by episode. I think it'd be more interesting to make a writeup of all the stuff they're cargo culting - point out how they're failing to understand it, and maybe even talk about how their sources themselves could've been flawed to begin with. That was actually my favorite part of Hbomberguy's posts and video, when he was nailing all the stuff RWBY's cribbing off of, namely Korra and Bebop, though I know for certain the rabbit hole goes way deeper than just those two shows.

Maybe also point out all the reused MMD assets from other people that end up in the show, since I heard that was the entire spawning for several characters in RWBY.

Another spring commute
RWBY is one of those things that completely passed me by because by the time RT was really going all in on it I had ducked out of RvB because I didn't really care for the more serious and bombastic tone it was moving towards. I watched the hbomb video because I like hbomb videos and my takeaway is that it essentially fell into some pretty classic amateur creator traps and also really suffered from nobody involved really having any kind of experience organizing such a large scale collaborative project. Probably also didn't help that the overriding ethos of the project was "let's make an anime" and the two principle writers had to be given a crash course by making them binge the last decade of popular anime that showed up on adult swim + ATLA/Korra. It's not really surprising that RWBY just turned out to essentially be fanfiction with the serial numbers filed off with the occasional awesome Oum fight scene. What is crazy is that it's still going after 8 seasons and Oum's death despite it all. I guess really good character designs + fan inertia is a hell of a thing.

Definitely doesn't seem like something I would ever bother to watch, but glad it's bringing some people joy. And if nothing else yeah those characters are really good fighting game material.

Malpais Legate

I feel like it should be mentioned that the Anime Slushie reviews are really done more like they're roasting RWBY than anything else, but it's not really the main feature of the podcast. It's mostly just a product of sticking through that show for its entire runtime waiting for it to improve when it stubbornly refuses to.

That being said, they also do a pretty good series revisiting Madoka Magica after a decade of people trying to reinvent the dark magical girl genre in its wake.

I've already watched all her podcasts. I just can't get enough of people criticizing this show, long as it sounds reasonable. Again, that whole "Use RWBY as a springboard to talk about where Korra and FMA 2003 flopped" obsession I have.

Korra was a gigantic flop, and it was not because nobody heard about it. It had really high viewership at the start, and then it cratered hard the longer it went on. Korra was extremely lucky that it got seasons 3 or 4. Nickelodeon would have been completely justified in just flat out cancelling it.

book one started with around 4.5m viewers and book two ended with around 2m. book three's first few episodes were even lower, likely owing to a leak of several episodes before the season premiere, and about halfway into book 3 is when it was shifted to online

edit: just remembered, although it stayed on fridays, nick kept shifting korra's timeslot which probably shook off a few viewers as well?

Not as great as the Battle or 06 dubs but farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr better than the Riders dub. There's a couple of parts they really should have just cut to edit it down from an hour, but it didn't meander around desperately trying to find a bit that sticks (or wasn't being beaten beyond the point of death by that pair they jettisoned from the group) as in the Rider dub either.

Korra had a bit of the ol' schedule shuffle but it's hard to overstate how much damage the two main Korra guys did to the show themselves. They tried to write it by themselves and focused on characters people just didn't like plus some really ham-fisted villains in the first two seasons. Until they brought in more creative talent the best most fans would say was 'it's okay I guess' or be really into it for the potential than what was actually there and a lot of the fanbase just hated it.
