I learned about the Minsc and Boo plainswalker today watching a legacy match at SCG baltimore. That is a hosed up magic the gathering card.

Yeah the price on that card has been jumping up over the past couple weeks so I figured it must’ve found a home outside of just Commander.

Cardboard rectangles used as playing pieces in a game for children are not something that a person can be defrauded of, if those pieces are identical to the point that humans cannot differentiate them by any means short of completely destructive testing.

If people are mad because the piece of paper they paid 200 dollars for is identical to another piece of paper that some other person paid 2 dollars for and they can no longer find any actual differences between the two, then that's just market forces working as intended and the "counterfeiters" should ramp up production full speed ahead until trash heaps like SCG and TCGplayer burn to the ground, imo.

If nobody can tell that a fake magic card is a fake magic card, then it isn't actually fake.

You receive a card in the mail and you don't know it's fake. You go to a tournament and get deck checked and oops, now it's a basic land and you're in poo poo with the judge

You receive a card in the mail and decide later you don't want to build that deck. You go to trade your card at the lgs and oops it's a fake. Now it's gone from 50 bucks to 0 and the folks down there think you're a grifter trying to sell fakes.

You realize this exact same argument, almost literally word-for-word, would apply to currency as well? You don't see any problem with that?

Like, sure, it's all just paper but once enough people agree that the silly paper has additional meaning it's important to honor that. Now, a children's card came is a silly thing to attribute too much value upon, but there's a clear difference between saying "I think that this thing costs too much and will represent it with this other thing" and "I think this thing costs too much and will endeavor to copy it as closely as possible".

That's kind of interesting. What is the right price for a discard spell? 1 mana no restrictions is too powerful, and doesn't currently exist. 1 mana no restrictions, but with a downside is Thoughtsieze, 1 mana with restrictions, you get IoK, Duress, and Divest, which range from "playable" to "lol".

2 mana - no restrictions is too weak though. How much upside does a discard spell need?

Thought Erasure was good enough to pay 2 colors for it, though it had a good upside as well, did the B/W one from Strixhaven see play?

It's basically a portable hole that says "each" instead of "Target"

Which is to say: No. Just the ones already in play.

Speaking of proxies: they do authentication for sneakers I wonder if they will for cards, because that become untenable really fast when suddenly you can't buy singles because the authentication tax is too high or the margins become so low no one sells because sellers pay the auth-tax.

They do do it for cards. It's anything over $400.
