Just realised that both the Spotify and YT links are likely region-locked (I'm in Australia) :/

Yup. Dying Wish did the same thing back when they were touring a month-ish before the album's actual release, so I grabbed it a couple weeks early too. It's a fun way to throw a band a few extra bux while getting something besides JUST another black tee

I thought the new botch was weak :(

If it was any other band, I wouldn't have finished the song.

I love Botch almost as much as I love the fact that Dave Knudsen started out doing stuff like that and then spent like 20 years making cheerful math-pop

It's unquestionably a high point in heavy music in general, I'm not sure if they've said so but I feel like Anothology of dead ends wasn't finished was because it simply wasn't going to be as good.

Seems like they aren't getting back together though which is a drat shame.

I read this as We Came As Romans like three times and was so confused.

I'll have to give that album a spin.

when i first looked up botch's discography i definitely thought "oh THAT's where that band name came from" until i realized later that it was not the same thing

i looked up We Came As Romans and there's no story behind the name so there's a good chance they were at least influenced

a few buddies of mine formed a band literally called "we are the romans" and that's when i realized it was a botch album and that botch was a band that existed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4suIMlKGzYU

they were/are all really talented, but i think they went for a sound that was too technical and it never really translated well live. it sounded like a wall of indecipherable sound. production could have been better too.

Just piping in to say (because I don't really have anywhere else to chime this) but I saw Minus the Bear during their farewell tour and Dave Knudson is literally such a loving god damned rock star who looked like he absolutely adored being up on stage and absolutely crushing those cheerful math-pop songs. 10/10 rockstar poo poo.

Yeah he has a lot of fun, it's awesome how he records loops for songs live, dude has like 4 of those big green Ibanez loop stations on his pedalboard. They were also incredibly tight live, gonna miss them a lot.

They're different enough that comparisons don't make a lot of sense, but I do think Planet of Ice is stronger than anything Botch put out. I'm also a weirdo that slightly prefers the christcore scene kid version of Botch to the real thing though:

oof. i was really looking forward to the new sharptooth and then i saw lauran is gone and welp. as far as i'm concerned she was the reason to listen to that band, that new vocalist is like nails on a chalkboard for me

transitional forms was one of the best albums of that year. rip

I liked Lauren well enough and I hope she continues making music with a different band, but her involvement with Sharptooth isn't a make or break detail for me. New vocalist is different, but I'm liking what I'm hearing, so whatever.

I wish I liked Suicide Silence’s music more, I’ve been listening to some of Garza’s podcast and he seems like a cool guy. That track is solid, sounds like kind of a return to form for them, I just don’t have a big attention span for that style of deathcore.

I seriously can't get enough of the new Daoboys. This is the most excited I've been about a core release for a long time, it feels like they fully realized the potential they showed on Die on Mars. It's got that blend of unpredictable chaos, big hooks, and substantive songwriting that made me fall in love with Miss Machine as an idiot teenager, but with its own identity that doesn't just sound like Great Value Dillinger.

i'll probably eat my words later on, but i listened to the new callous daoboys album a grand total of 1 time so far and didn't feel compelled during any song to replay a part or listen to the album again or anything. their last album hooked me immediately and i still love a lot of those songs.

someone above mentioned a similarity to miss machine and that just so happens to be when i stopped liking dillinger escape plan. i get it you can't just be a math metal spaz breakdown band record after record, but my unsophisticated palate doesn't want much nuance. the more "mature" a band gets it usually just means the more boring their songs get.

i'm hoping i'll force a few more listens and something will shine through i didn't catch yet. we'll see
