My sister has a cabin in central Minnesota. The part of the lake it's on is called "Dragonfly Cove". There is also a bridge with thousands of swallows nested in it nearby. There are many other swallow nests nearby. It's amazing how few mosquitoes there are there. It's the best.

Isn't that a damselfly? Agreed that dragonflies (and damselflies) are cool as heck. Watching them feed at night was one of my favourite parts of working at a summer camp. One of the guys I worked with actually managed to put one 'on a leash', by putting it in the freezer so it slowed down enough to get some fishing line around its thorax. He tied it to his hat and it would feed on mosquitoes while he worked out in the woods.

That reminds me of another story from the camp. We were using these commercial trailers as extra cabins because the place was overbooked, and one day my campers left the door to ours wide open. They started yelling at me complaining that there was "a huge moth" that got in. I took one look and was like "that's a hummingbird." We tried to shoo it out of the 'cabin' with a broom but it instead flew into the ceiling air conditioning vent. I had to stand on some chairs and stick my arm down the duct to catch the poor thing (it had gotten stuck between the duct wall and plate  ) but not before I stuck my camera in there and snapped this weird pic: I got a shot of the hummingbird in my hand too but that one is lost to time. I hope the poor thing was ok after we released it.
