Aren't most new Chinese immigrants in Australia rich? They just don't get any media representation (probably for the better.)

Asian Cinema -

there's a kid whose neck is so kinked its debilitating and his dad, who's having a lot of problems with the mom, sees it as an excuse to go away from home so he can gently caress boys in bath houses while taking the kid to visit different doctors/mystics etc around the country. On one trip the kid is tired of waiting for the dad to come back to the hotel so he goes to a bath house to try and relax when a strange man enters his room and jerks him off. the light turns on. it's his dad. the dad, so embarassed that he jerked off his son, slaps him so hard it fixes his neck.

A sequel to the neck movie.

The kid is older now and his dad died. He's facing homelessness and sells watches on a pedestrian bridge. A lady traveling to france buys a watch with two time zones. After she purchases it the kid finds he cannot pee, and compulsively starts setting every watch in his collection, clock at home, and eventually clock in the entire city to Paris time. The woman, in france, keeps seeing other asian faces in the crowd, almost haunting her, and she's desperately missing home, she starts a sexual relationship with a hong kong woman who's feeling the same. Finally the kid, in asia, sets the giant clock on the train station to paris time, and can pee again. In paris, the lady sees the kid's father as another tourist in the crowd.

A sequel to that movie (mediated by a short film).

The kid still needs money and becomes a pornographic actor. The lady comes back from France and finally finds him. They start a relationship but he doesn't want her to know about his career change. I think she works in a video store with a porn section so it's a matter of time. He's on a shoot with a japanese actress when a bottle cap gets stuck inside the actress and she passes out. The director insists they keep filming. It's in the same building as his girlfriend lives and she finds the set. She realizes the passed out actress is too lifeless and starts moaning in rhythm to help sell it. As the kid climaxes he lunges his dick into her mouth. Fin.

It's like a 10 movie cinematic universe and they all rule

i wanted to believe there was some sort of mental breakdown element at play but all the multiverse stuff seemed way too sincere and unambiguous to support that reading

it doesnt help that the lesbian daughter aspect is shunted way into the background as is the divorce both are just things that are happening and its not really clear why either is such a big deal i actually spent like half the movie thinking the divorce was being done for strategic tax reasons because thats how underexplained it was

For a domestic example, when I was growing up in Utah there would be mormon video stores that sold the TV or G rated edits of movies like Gladiator. So like, censorship is kinda baked into how entertainment gets packaged and altered to suit new audiences.

It basically is, fantasy is just making the internal world external. The multiverse is just a representation of the feeling of failure and lost potential.

Neck jerk off movie: okay somebody give me the title

Everything everywhere: there are 3 different relationship threads in the story family. Old grandpa and the mom; husband and wife; mother and lesbians daughter.

Both the granddad and parents are first gen migrants. I thought their relationships were handled well and felt relatable.

The parents and the 2nd gen zoomed daughter relationship was a meh. However the Chinese dialogues are quite good so the filmmakers can't be 2nd gen zoomers who don't read and write Chinese. I haven't checked the age of the filmmakers that's just my hunch.

The multiverse stuff: frankly it is a turn off for me. Filmmaker feels like some kind of multiverse conossiur who has a extended personal library on multiverse books. My preferred style of multiverse is the kind in Anathem (Stephenson) where even the molecular comositions of breathing air are different. This style is.... fake sci-fi.

Main issue I have is them suggesting they shouldn’t crack down on tech. Considering how in LA, Europe, Anglophone counties and the USA tech sectors are highly aligned with financeI say it’s one of their best ideas to crack down hard on such a sector. The rest they are right about. Also the low birth rates are a issue but it’s also a huge unachnowoeged issue in Europe, and especially America.

the ratio of multiverse stuff to all other stuff was way out of whack the raccaccooie bit was funny for like the initial joke and then the callback but then its like an extended part of the climactic montage for no good reason

I liked EEAAO except the third act broke the pacing pretty bad.

would have been better to have the bagel thing and the laundrymat thing climax together but they had too much going on to make that work.

good to see someone make a movie they care about instead of try to make a career or make money or something

also I thought it was good asian representation in USA on top of being a love letter to HK cinema

those types of universes exist in EEAAO. they go to one. the show a few more in the montage where mom flashes through a thousand different universes. but the multiverse travel tech (the bluetooth thing) only allows them to connect to adjacent universes which are the most similar. once mom breaks free of those limitations she can go anywhere and winds up in a universe where the laws of physics don't permit biochemistry, where her daughter says "most of them are like this." in terms of internal consistency I thought they handled that aspect of multiversal theory well
