Well even if it was bad China sure wouldn’t say it.

The health of their economy can impact the whole world too so it’s kinda important.

Workers getting paid more, progress towards universal healthcare, meaningful attempts to control the covid pandemic, people starting to question that Pareto bullshit.

the other issue is that people dont trust chinese GDP numbers.

I remember years ago some article was posted where a dude just had people count the number coal shipments in ports to see if energy usage was up or down.

4. (C) GDP figures are "man-made" and therefore unreliable, Li said. When evaluating Liaoning's economy, he focuses on three figures: 1) electricity consumption, which was up 10 percent in Liaoning last year; 2) volume of rail cargo, which is fairly accurate because fees are charged for each unit of weight; and 3) amount of loans disbursed, which also tends to be accurate given the interest fees charged. By looking at these three figures, Li said he can measure with relative accuracy the speed of economic growth. All other figures, especially GDP statistics, are "for reference only," he said smiling.

Well, it's been 15 years and Li has been on the politburo for 14 of those years, and Premier for 9. How are things now?

That's what happens when the decent jobs demand serious overtime, and the decent places to live have house prices that are becoming unattainable even with family help, and a lot of the people who are hitting marriage age have few brothers and sisters, therefore more often having higher expectations for their own achievements, and higher expectations put on them by their family.

The government made a few steps towards improving this, re: overtime, maternity/paternity leave, some media campaigns that I considered ti be super weird but apparently a lot of people here thought were well-done...
But, I haven't heard of much more high-profile stuff recently, which is discouraging.

It seems that a common disease of development is to leave people without the time and money to pursue family-related goals. You might hope that China would try to avoid this, but so far you'd be mostly disappointed.

industrialization and urbanization are very very very disruptive. China speed running all those changes in 30 years while imposing the one child policey really has hosed them.

If my Chinese friends and their constant WeChat complaints are correct, Zero Covid has removed that 40-hour work week and replaced it with "I wish I could earn as much as was possible in 2019. My life is purely suckage right now, and I am near broke" that hurts all the tanky hearts. They are all are absolutely over all of the lockdowns and restrictions. Not just a little bit, but 100% absolutely hating Xi over it because they can't pay their mortgages anymore. My old coworker went from earning 70K RMB from every month ($10.1K USD) from her business, down to 30k RMB per month ($3.5K USD). That's more than half from what she was making, same job, in 2019 because the city-wide lockdowns and Zero Covid block-or-district-lockdowns have hosed and triple hosed people's income so hard that people don't even bother with online options anymore. I remember hearing that the initial 2020 lockdown shuttered thousands of businesses per city, and (obviously) none of them have returned because people's life savings were wiped out completely during that period. One of my friends just commented tonight that the "president has five more years," meaning it's going to be the same poo poo for the next five years. RIP to all those stuck there. RIP to those who have been hosed by Xi.

LOL, we all know it's just TCM trash and nothing which can fight or help covid once it takes hold. For a country that has no social security, and people who retire have zero anything in return--the entire medical industry and social system will collapse into dust if covid ever spreads like wild fire. China/CCP, for all its cha bu duo, will never ever be prepared for what would happen to them if Zero Covid doesn't work. I know the C-Spam hate-readers of this thread will froth at the mouth wanting to complain I said that, but, LMAO, should have given those plebians some sort of retirement system that didn't involve their adult single-child working to take care of them.

It wasn't a China-specific list, just a general joke on what sort of things make economists cry for all the lost profits, because they cater to and represent the rich few and not the poor many.
