Well, it probably takes a lot of episodes to adapt the whole Story of the Vivian Girls. I applaud Nick for taking on some outsider art for its catalog.

late reply but i think this is kind of a misread of anno and eva's messaging, even if it's really common. eva, both the original and the rebuilds, arent really about 'drop your obsessions and bond with another human,' anno definitely has no interest in dropping his own obsessions. when he talks about otaku culture he never really criticizes the actual interests, or even the state of being more interested in anime or giant robots or whatever than other people, he criticizes the mix of narcissm and self-loathing, the ego that expects other people to bend over backwards for you when you don't put in nearly as much effort. the hedgehog's dilemma is about the idea of wanting affection but being afraid to try and get it - someone who doesn't crave affection that badly is exempt from it.

Being an otaku and shutting out society is fine, what eva is about is people who do that and then act like society shut them out instead, or like society owes them something, like they need to be saved from that by someone else. Basically, you have to be aware of what you're doing and why, not blaming other people for your own decisions. thats the problem shinji suffers from.

I occasionally click on these in this thread because I don't understand the appeal of influencers and parasocial relationships at all and it's a window into a whole world of media consumption I wouldn't otherwise know existed. It's hard for me to see the content producers as anything other than performers channeling their energy into fame or money or simply feeding on the attention, and the consumers as voyeurs, people who feed on negative energy, or persons with a vast emptiness inside in desperate need of distraction. This video doesn't change my opinion, but there are hints that my perception is a shallow and out of touch one. Maybe.

This might be a dated and out of touch reference but I can't help but be reminded of Fahrenheit 451's high-tech soap operas, where the characters talk back to you and give the illusion of involving you in their stories. IIRC, they can take up entire walls in your home and you never have to turn them off, and there's a chance they comment on your life as well.

What happened on Cartoon Network in December 2017?

EDIT: Found it

https://twitter.com/RoseTitania__/status/1565834609052585985

EDIT2: I gotta say, while the literal 24/7 Henry Danger is certainly more extreme, the CN Dec 2017 schedule is a lot weirder. A marathon of a single show for an entire week, except for a single random episode of another show at 7:30 on Friday. What's up with that?

Oh my god, I've never seen footage of WET but I had no idea it was bad like that. People in the PS4 games thread liked to get on Uncharted's rear end for having bullet spongey enemies but that's absolutely nuts. That and the other issues like the camera not being consistent during big jumps.

I would've liked a Stranglehold sequel and Total Overdose ain't great either but could've been better. It has fun flips while you're shooting at least.

There is something so deeply admirable to me about how he took his life of lonely abuse and pain and turned it into this huge flowering of art and imagination. That doesn't have much to do with Teen Nick, I admit.

8chan still 'exists' but the community's been splintered to 2 or 3 sites all of which are pretty fractured. the original 8chan was a big melting pot which is why it could lead to things like that, but these days there's a successor site thats entirely qanon and politics, a site thats entirely video game discussion, and one site that near as i can tell has its most active board by a mile be entirely about sissy hypno porn.

for instance, heres the qanon site's top board list

PPH is average posts per hour, active ISPs is how many unique IPs have posted in the past 3 days. Everything that isn't about politics (or being polish?) is getting less than a post per hour and has less than 30 unique users. This is a site exclusively dedicated to qanon at this point. Qanon isn't filtering into and out of other discussions.

When you group all those people together, they bleed into each other in insane ways. When you split them apart, they're somewhat more manageable. The sissy hypno and video game guys probably still have insane political opinions, but on a site where discussion of politics is relatively limited, they are unlikely to work themselves up into a tizzy about it. Likewise, the politics guys are likely focused mostly on things of actual political relevance, rather than twitch streamers.

Kiwifarms will probably suffer a similar fate. It will be fractured into multiple smaller communities which even put together dont hold as much reach as the original site did. That's what happens when the hammer comes down on sites like this - or even in real life, you can see this happen. When hate groups get rounded up by the feds, they splinter into a dozen smaller groups that focus on hyperspecific elements on the first group's general goals. Even outside of hate groups, if you deleted SA tomorrow, what would happen is you'd get 4 or 5 different successor sites with different focuses, not just 1 site that completely inherits all of SA's current userbase.

That's why people going 'well, this wont get rid of kiwifarms!!!' or whatever are morons, because yeah, it won't, but it will undermine them a ton.

All of this. By deplatforming the larger sites like Kiwifarms you atomize the communities, making it harder for them to recruit, radicalize, and rally. The people aren't going to stop being toxic lumps, but broken up into smaller chunks they're much less harmful.

Like kidney stones.

when donald trump was banned from twitter he had to make his own twitter ripoff where he gets much less engagement and has only 4 million followers and is lucky to get over 20 thousand likes and 3 thousand retweets and if you remove the bots he gets even less engagement than that. now compare that to the 88 million followers and hundreds of thousands likes and retweets he had on twitter. deplatforming works

Social media has proven that when you bring a lot of people together, the wrong people from every community will all talk to each other and share their terrible ideas, forming their own massive horrible community. Splintering horrible groups always helps reduce how horrible they are. We've seen what happens when the "nigers must die" guy starts talking to the "how is babby formed" guy and it's just not good.

Geop sort of went back to doing videos for the internet, but rather than let's plays, he's been Zillow browsing streams on Sundays and uploaded a chunk of them to his old youtube page. Also does "hey lemme go watch some stuff with you" streams and they're surprisingly fun since a chunk of them do center on his wood and steel making hobbies or urbex. This climbed up rather quickly on one of my fave things to watch on twitch alongside Retropals and TieTuesday.

Speaking of one of those, wanna see a surprising DankPods + Retropals crossover?
