we better harvest them at a feverish and unsustainable pace now while we still can, then! we've got batteries to make, green revolution people

little did we know that instead of throwing car batteries into the ocean, we should have just thrown the crabs directly into the car batteries

I'm not sure how long I've been reading this thread but I've given up mostly saying whatever the current doom outlook is it could be vastly reduced if we chose to do so.

Like the omar ending in deus ex invisible war or the book blindsight's ending.

It does make it privately funnier for me.

i think the big breakup/loss of federal cohesion in the US is going to be a climate disaster occuring in a blue state with a republican controlled washington, where there is little to no federal support for the survivors and rebuilding and the idea of a unified country in any sense just evaporates

The support is limited to the landowner class to a certain extent. Rich people build in areas that are already experiencing regular climate disasters (ex: wildfire/urban interface in CA, Dauphin Island in Louisiana), and they get bailed out every time so they can rebuild. Theres currently a situation in AZ where they're getting abandoned by the state, though. a bunch of rich boomers are going to get their water deliveries from Scottsdale cut off and have to choose between spending far more on water or abandoning their property. Kind of interesting to see the slow motion collapse happening in one of the most politically troglodytic states first as it will probably serve as the model for future more widespread disasters.

Dauphin is in Alabama, Louisiana has lost so much land that they wouldn't even try to save it they'd just claim it was still there even after the ocean claims it
