Seems like that rumoured graphics upgrade is in the works according to the lead producer on a livestream. No ETA as usual though!

Really wish they'd work in a decent dungeon finder again. Even though no one used that poo poo the first time.

I fired up EQ2 the other day, and it doesn't have one either. Apparently it's had one multiple times, but they keep ripping it out because they can't program it correctly. Random dungeon / raid grouping is very "love it / hate it", so for older MMOs without a functioning one, I guess it's just easier to not rock the boat. Esp if they just release something that doesn't work anyways. I can't imagine if the tools worked correctly, and it was properly advertised with a good UI/UX, that it wouldn't get heavy use.

New mini-expansion announced, aimed at low level players (1-30) with the two zones leaked earlier.quote:Before the Shadow will send players into two new regions, Swanfleet and Cardolan, as Boromir makes his way north to Rivendell ahead of the meeting of what will eventually become the Fellowship of the Ring while the Nazgűl search for “Baggins” in the peaceful land of the Shire. While I've been happy with the zones they've added as replacements for having to do Misty Mountains etc, I'm really kind of confused why they are focusing so heavily on remaking the new player experience. Especially considering how awesome Bree-Land is.

If they ever shut the game down they'll leave one machine in the dusty corner running where you can log in and do that escort. And walk with Sara Oakheart.

God. those loving quests. They must remain for all time just so people can get a taste of the hell that was early-era MMO quest design.

The one where you let a child zip around an undead and warg-infested hellscape instead of taking her immediately to her father? Or the one in the main quest line where you have to put up with Tom Bombadil?

Been thinking about reinstalling this bad boy. Do we know when the Hobbit Loremaster (and I guess other things) update is dropping yet?

sexpig by night posted:Been thinking about reinstalling this bad boy. Do we know when the Hobbit Loremaster (and I guess other things) update is dropping yet? September's update 33.2, word is early September near as I can tell. Seeing a post here inspired me to glance at the lotro reddit and I saw a post that August 31st is the last day to sort out transfers from Anor. I assume they are ending that legendary server. I didn't end up playing past the start of Mirkwood but I need to look into this as I accepted a few once per account gifts on that character and it would be great to merge it in with my main server. Heads up in case anyone else was out of the loop and still has chars on Anor. Looked up the website and you technically have until December 31st then they are gone. Between August 31st and December 31st you can still transfer but you will lose any mail and housing stuff you have. Kinship leaders might have to abandon or sell their kindship house to be able to move. https://www.lotro.com/news/lotro-anor-closure-information-en

Guess it's time for my yearly visit...especially cause there's a new Middle Earth show. I'm still sitting on my lifetime account and free points keep accumulating. So I wanted to ask if there's anything I can buy and gift to the guild. I'm completely out of the loop though and have no idea which shop stuff is useful.

Big change coming to Minstrel. The Yellow specialization (which is a buffer spec) is being turned into a passive tree. The devs say it is mostly being used to buff parties pre-pull and then Minstrels switch over to Blue or Red for the actual fight. This is how Brawler's (the newest class) Yellow line also works. As a passive tree where you can select traits and/or skills to bolster the Red and Blue specs.

Get yourself some large carry all's and universal toolkits and shared storage space and riding skill upgrades. And maybe premium housing for yourself.

What are we expecting when it comes to the graphics overhaul? Also, any word on a gameplay update to make it play a little more modern? Honestly I'm a bit surprised they didn't try to capitalize on the new Amazon show more. rkd_ fucked around with this message at 00:16 on Sep 8, 2022 |

I don't really see how they could. The series takes place a few thousand years before LotR, does it not?

I assume they just meant capitalize on the renewed interest and attention to the legendarium, but LotRO has some good extended flashback areas like Mordor Besieged and the burnt dwarf azog storyline.

rkd_ posted:What are we expecting when it comes to the graphics overhaul? The graphics overhaul is mostly looking at a UI overhaul (better high-resolution support without massive scaling) and updating particularly old/bad textures and models. It gets brought up often in the Q&A streams and it's always stressed that it's not some massive rework, more about just making it feel better to play and bring the obviously bad assets into a better state. I'll take the server improvements before that, but I'll still be really happy with a smoother UI experience.

I finished Book 13 of Volume 1 and Forochel was by a wide margin the worse zone so far. The zone is ugly too so I couldn't even enjoy the scenery while riding back and forth.

OhFunny posted:I finished Book 13 of Volume 1 and Forochel was by a wide margin the worse zone so far. The post-SoA books of Volume 1 are a real slog, which is a shame because the story arc they cover is…not bad? Not a masterpiece of writing by any standards but way better than most MMO writing at the time.

I actually like Forochel a lot with the northern lights and bleakness. But yeah I agree all the long distance back and forth pre-Moria had me mithril coin-ubering frequently my second and third times through.

Returning to this game after a decade off, and somehow I've become hopelessly entranced by it. The vibes are just so good! Anyway, I really love the Minstrel, but it's maddening managing buffs with this UI. Every icon is super tiny, provides no useful info, and there's a million of them. It sucks Is there any way to make this better?

Wait for the UI update coming soonish! Otherwise usually mods or loving with the UI scaling to an insane degree.
