Honestly I figured you just reach the regret tipping point and just say “what the hell(?)” and go for it.

And what qualifies those who shouldn’t get them? I’m curious now.

There's the kind of person who doesn't appreciate the human hand in the work and think tattoo artists are basically human photocopiers. I know that's kinda stupid to say in a thread like this where we are mocking shite work but even the best artists out there are working against their own hands and how squirmy their client might be that day, never mind how it'll heal after with blowouts or whatever. They're the sort who will go home with a new tattoo and just STARE at it for hours until they loving haaate it.

We also get people who are in very deep dark places looking for things, usually it's someone dealing with grief, sometimes we get people in on the way to a wake. Usually we get people to wait a month or two for the shock of losing someone to pass before getting a poo poo load of work done. That's not like, you know "DAD RIP 77-22" we are talking massive pieces although my boss did once cut off a local woman who kept getting her dead husband's name tattooed on her. Eventually she came around and I've been removing them for her, they just remind her of how much she misses him now.

And then yeah Drunks and Junkies and poo poo, I've only experience in trying to pierce someone who isn't sober and it sucks balls. Couldn't imagine trying to tattoo someone like that, let alone the obvious ethical issue.

A guy in my class lost both parents in the space of a year when we were around 16. A few other kids I knew lost parents in their teens before school was done. There were a lot of heavy smokers and drinkers just keeling over in their late thirties or early forties in my town

A whole bunch of people died young on my dad's side of the family. We always thought it was a history of heart disease, but it turns out living in Libby, Montana and inhaling asbestos all the time is detrimental to one's health :v:

Here, have a half hour video of a very nervous British plainskin give one of his employees a tattoo after only a few hours of training:

Most of my tattoos are "lol remember this one-off Simpsons joke?" and one is a band-inspired tattoo. Another is some cool art that the artist turned into linework. I was gonna use the other limb for blackwork but the artist moved interstate :( . Ya don't need some deep meaning if you enjoy it.

Plus it's going to make someone's day to see Kirk's pictionary "Dignity", Milpool, or Handsome Pete tattooed on you
