I liked City on a Hill for the most part. Kevin Bacon as a shitbag Boston cop carries the show quite a bit.

There's only one Showtime show I went back and watched, and it was the TV version of This American Life. Is It's Garry Shandling's Show on there?

Every time someone brings up Green Lantern I think about the leaked script that was under consideration with Jack Black as the writer/star During the training Kilowog made a machine gun to shoot GL and GL panicked and made a hundred secret service agents to jump in front of him We coulda had that instead

I got so ready for that, steeled myself, and then nothing bad happened! There was a sweet wonderful happy ending where everyone loved him and everything worked out. And THAT floored me even moreso than the depressing ending I was expecting. It's like I got so ready to be punched in the face and then I got kicked in the rear end. What the gently caress. What an amazing show.

A short list from memory: Yellowjackets, the first 2 seasons of Homeland, the first 3(?) seasons of Billions and the new season of Twin Peaks come to mind. I also have a soft spot for Sleeper Cell. I have never watched these, but they have their fans: Dexter, Shameless, The Affair and Nurse Jackie.

Any other show would have had the build up of Tino(?) pissing all over the place, then the bunk beating, lead to it happening to Cheese too. But RD doesn't feel bound by the rules, having him end up respecting Cheese with no real build up was great. The bunk beating never mentioned again aside from the shot of his beat up face. Stuff just happens on the show.

Yeah idk how but I was sleeping on a John Brown show, so thanks for bringing up Good Lord Bird. Only an episode in but I’m enjoying it so far. Another show I was sleeping on until recently, Primal on HBO Max, is extremely good and unique. It’s a hyper-violent action/horror cartoon with essentially no dialogue that’s about a cave man and a dinosaur teaming up and wrecking poo poo in a Sid Meier style fantasy world where everything from the Jurassic to the medieval period (so far, going from memory) exist simultaneously. Really impressive visual storytelling. The show has a lot more emotional depth than it ought to.

doctorthefonz posted:Moonfall: MEGASTRUCTURE on HBO (it sucks) Watched it last night after getting home from the bar. I knew it was going to be bad given that they had already featured it on How Did This Get Made, so I knew to keep my expectations low. It's definitely a film by Roland Emmerich. Watching Morbius on Netflix now, also knew to go in with very low expectations, and even those were not low enough. Everything about the movie is just so profoundly stupid, even down to the little things like when Martine gets on the bus with a newspaper, and the headline is just "WANTED FOR MURDER" and the photo is a promotional still of Jared Leto from the set of the movie from a scene just 30 minutes earlier. I have no idea what Sony thinks they're trying to do with their Marvel properties, and I wonder if they're having doubts about Madam Web given all the controversy lately around Olivia Wilde, and all of the negative reviews coming out for Don't Worry Darling.

Independence Day doesn’t either. Goldblum is divorced but there’s no kid, Will Smith is a good stepdad, and Bill Pullman is a good dad who ends up a widower. Judd Hirsch doesn’t count either, he seems to be close with Goldblum. Lots of divorced or widowed dads, though. ed: gently caress, I forgot about Randy Quaid

I guess it's not just Emmerich, who I was very shocked to find out right now is gay cause I figured some of these movies were total projection. Just blockbuster/disaster movies in general. Seems like so many are some loose variation of "there's this great guy and something bad happens to him, but his bitch wife doesn't stand by him, so he's divorced and stuck dealing with her stupid new boyfriend and he doesn't get to see his kids much. He's super cool though. he's a pilot astronaut military commander who also rides motorcycles and muscle cars and is super brave. Once the earth cracks in half (the wifes dumb boyfriend falls in when this happens and gets melted alive, so she's single again) he is separated from his kids and will do anything to get them back. He does. His wife realizes how cool he was all along. "

Lazy_Liberal posted:yeah nurse jackie rules. one of my favorite shows about opiate addiction. Like with most Showtime shows that end up being good, Nurse Jackie was only good for a couple of seasons before turning south. Merritt Weaver was amazing in it though, and deserved that Emmy win. The show also featured a young Arjun Gupta who went on to star on the wonderful The Magicians, which is still streaming on Netflix for anyone who hasn't seen it yet and needs a reminder. Just keep in mind, the show starts rough as it was only loosely adapting the books, and struggled to find its voice and tone. It all started to come together in season 2, and season 3 was one of the most wonderful and enjoyable seasons in television. It's thoroughly camp, and once they realized that, that's when things started to get good.
