Saints Row 2022: The normal gunplay is supplemented by takedowns where your character offs an enemy in a variety of violent, usually bloody ways. There's a series of missions where your character is LARPing, and your guns are replaced with non-lethal equivalents. Your takedowns are also replaced with silly, obvious pulled punches where your enemy gamely plays along and "dies", including one where you "pull out their heart" and do the squeezy hand thing to act like it's still beating.

It’s fun enough, not groundbreaking, but I’m enjoying it. They made a fun city than feels like a mix of Austin and Las Vegas and put in plenty of collectibles and details that reward exploration.

if you go in telling yourself "this is a b-movie game, basically if Riverdale had a GTA season" saints row is worth full price. like people keep mentioning the larp but there's a bunch of cooler details to it. it's a fantasy dune-fallout-madmax larp, there are multiple permanent castles which shows how mental the town is for it, before and after the missions (maybe a bug? lol) you see people in the larp gear or driving rustbucket battlecars around.

Because there's so much heart put into it. When the rest of the game isn't bugging out it's fine, it's just that it's 'woke' crime game.
There's a side-business chain that gives you a hoverboard and a rocket-propelled football.

Well, the LDR episode's based on a short story by Alistair Reynolds. Who managed to keep his obsession with body parts being oh so neatly sliced off just long enough to write a story about spiders mind-controlling people into pleasant numbing dreams.

I've been playing some CK3 lately, and I still very much like the 'Resume' option from the launcher, which they added to the engine in Stellaris? I think.
For anyone who doesn't know, it boots the game, then autoloads your most recent save, meaning that you can just fire it off then go get something to drink, or alt-tab, or whatever.

It's a nice little QoL thing, especially since the games used to take a while to boot, and again to load.

Supreme commander's save files are set up to open using the supcom exe, and will just launch into the game state. So if you want to skip intros, menus and all that other poo poo and just pick up where you left off, create a shortcut to your save file on the desktop and double click it. Bam, you're in.

Something I think is kind of fun in Marvel's Avengers is how to proceed in many missions you have to use a keypad. Almost every character just kind of stands there and pushes buttons, except Thor who puts his hand on it and then just blasts it with lightning.

I was not expecting there to be a deck-based side game in Splatoon 3, but I'm actually liking Tableturf battles a lot. It uses grid-based maps to simulate ink battles, where you play cards that ink the grid in distinctive shapes based around your weapons, characters, etc, and there are rules for contesting areas and painting over ink. Plus, the card art for everything is cute as hell. Just an unexpected fun time that I'm going out of my way to play outside of the main game.

Spider-Man (2018)

Lots of environmental storytelling. When things really go to hell in NYC, Spider-Man wakes up and it's a gloomy, rainy day. Not the most fun for swinging around in. People huddled around barrels of fire for warmth, tent cities set up.

Villain motivation is also handled nicely. Villains team up because they've been offered solutions to their problems - with actual fixes - rather than "just because it would be cool and 6 heads are better than 1". Means they're really going to fight Spidey as hard as they can, because they've had a taste of what could actually be gained from beating him. :getin:

Playing through Battletech again, and I really like the voice acting in it. There's not much by way of storyline development of your mech pilots in the game but you do get the sense of them each having their own little personalities that come through via their radio chatter.

Notable is Glitch, who approaches her job of mech pilot with borderline psychotic childlike glee. The voice actress really turns it up to 11, whether it's just her stock combat chatter like "When I shoot you, you take it and like it"... or "you get a headshot! And you get a headshot!" Or when you start up a mission in a polar biome and she excitedly blurts out "Do you think we'll see bears?!?" :buddy:

She's just fuckin' stoked to be stomping around in a big ol' battlemech and it's delightful.

I told you so...
I'm replaying The Last of Us 2 and this time I noticed something that I missed the first time around: When you're working on your guns on a workbench, Ellie will release the gun's magazine and empty the chamber before doing anything with it, then when you leave the bench your gun will be reloaded but minus one bullet, since there's none in the chamber. Also, if you leave the upgrade screen for a specific gun, Ellie will put the magazine back in but not work the slide/bolt, then if you come back to that same gun Ellie will do the whole thing again but this time no bullet will come out when she clears the chamber 'cause it's still empty.

Which, however, means that she shouldn't be able to shoot after using a bench since as far as I can tell she never manually works a new round in the chamber. Also, even when you reload from empty, you still get that extra round even though you shouldn't, but hey, they tried!

There are a lot of worse writers, and with games it's hard to know who wrote what and under what circumstances but none of the games I've played where she was involved in the writing where anything special. Also just because you are a writer in games doesn't mean you actually have control of big plot stuff, so I don't know is she's to blame for when those got really dumb in games like TR2013.
