I am so amused that Nebraska pulled the trigger instead of waiting 3 weeks.

Something like the governor or whoever proclaimed a day to honor him in his first season as coach and then they had an embarrassing loss on that day... or was it cancelled or something? The opening-season game that day was cancelled due to weather, and they started the year 0-6 after that

So really it cost $16.4 million to fire Frost, adding in the amount they paid Georgia Southern to make that decision.

My conspiracy theory is that Frost wanted the full buy out and didn’t prepare his team appropriately for Georgia Southern knowing he was canned if they lost.

Gotta respect Scott Frost deliberately tanking the start of the season badly enough to get that extra $7.5 million in bailout money. Secure that bag, son.

I don’t understand why teams would ever fire a coach before November; it doesn’t seem to serve any function beyond being a salve for the fans and alumni, who as far as I’m concerned are all a bunch of hooting apes who deserve nothing. The “getting ahead of the market” line always gets trotted out, but that basically never ends up beating out.

Coach might start making decisions that don’t benefit the team long term if he sticks around, coach might lose the locker room entirely if he sticks around, recruits meeting a dead man walking might give them a bad impression… I know the actual reason (booster pressure) but there are reasons you might want to axe a guy who isn’t gonna get better but could still do some damage and make things worse

Some of the hooting apes donate bug bux to the program You're not wrong, it is dumb as poo poo. But when the septua- and octogenarians who make 6- and 7-figure donations start getting angry, ADs and Presidents listen.
