With every blessed college football season comes a new generation of incredulous internet people who are just seeing their first yell practice. For me, it's the little kick/arm pull gesture they do because the first guy who did it was wearing a shirt that was too big for him so he had to keep pulling it up. I think of the yell practices as a well-meaning and fun tradition, but it's also extremely stupid and fun to ridicule. The fake army on the other hand is just the second thing.

But man it looks harder to make a course correction in Lincoln, NE. yea, how do you look at UF and FSU both of which have won titles in this century, have semi-consistent prime time games, are pretty solid as college towns (if only for the short drive to a beach + weather), sit in a massive state with fertile recruiting grounds and think that its simple or easy to keep a program competing for a division title every year? now take away all of the inherent positives FSU and UF have, remove all their success in the 2000s, add in a dumber school administration and you get nebraska. like yea, no poo poo they're having trouble. the reason Wisconsin, Iowa, and Northwestern are competitive every year is because outside of the obvious locational advantages, they have a better administration and more importantly they still have their coaches who turned them into perennial contenders. Ferentz is still there, Barry Alvarez might not be coaching but he's still heavily involved, Fitzgerald is still at NW after a decade. All of those are teams that could very very very easily slip when they lose their guiding hands and end up in the basement. Don't take long stretches of success for granted. -signed every FSU and UF fan

REALLY aggressively signaling false start for the second, then signaling uncatchable for the third. (I made it 4 and a half minutes in there, which is...4 and a half minutes I won't get back.

I haven't had the privilege of getting to watch a game yet, but it sounds like he's not being asked to win games by himself and as a result he is getting to win games. I'm sure there will be some time later this season where it all comes down to Adrian balling out but that hasn't needed to happen yet. Going from "please win the entire game by yourself" to "please just try not to gently caress up catastrophically more than once or twice in a row and the running game will take care of the rest" has to be a better place to exist. Hoping we get some fireworks later though.

The backfield seems like a really good one as far as K-State teams go. Adrian is better than our average QB, Deuce Vaughn is a miniature force of nature, Malik Knowles is fast as hell and can take a handoff around the edge. The receiving corps is so-so in two games but the haven't had to do anything to win yet.

Adrian Martinez is, at absolute best, a game manager. And maybe that's all K-State needs, but he is definitely not going to win them any games on his own
