The quadraverb and Roland racks aren’t really fancy at all, they’re super cheap now and I bought a quadraverb for less than a hundred a few years ago (or I just mean they’re not complicated to use at all, if you haven’t used any rack stuff, they’re as simple as guitar pedals basically, but with pretty basic digital interfaces instead and they’re worth messing with if you make music or play guitar). It’s a pretty distinct like late 80s/early 90s sound and a lot of shoegazey and IDM artists used them often, and in a recent twitch stream, Sean from autechre said both of them have been making their own reverbs in max/msp for years now but he said his reverbs tend to sound like they have the same sort of harmonic overtones as the quadraverb even now. Pretty sure they also have a reverse reverb similar to the Yamaha spx90 which Kevin shields used to get the weird gliding sustained chord sound too in general to just having a nice reverb for dream pop and shoegaze. I love that era of rack reverb and multi FX units, I have a Lexicon PCM80 which I’m pretty sure Robin Guthrie used on Heaven or Las Vegas for the chorus, reverb and delay fx, and just plugging a guitar DI into it into my audio interface, alone with no amp modeling or anything is like instant Cocteau Twins. The DeltaLab Effectron is another rack reverb that sounds absolutely fantastic on shoegaze type applications. I pretty much use it on everything I record in some capacity. It can also be very dubby if you treat it right.
