It's absolutely a money thing. That's why so many companies are so late announcing this, they've been calculating predicted sales volume vs salaries.

Malleus maleficarum, a fifteenth century book that's basically a training guide for witch hunters, starts out by explaining that for a person to become a witch, they must be tempted into a pact with the devil, which in turn requires the permission of God. God literally allows the devil to grant witches magic powers to use to run around loving poo poo up as a part of His master plan. Somehow the modern "I'm a soldier in God's army" kind of fundie is even dumber and less consistent. It's kind of amazing.
