i listened to the first season of Serial and they had a couple eps go way into how murder detectives build THEIR strongest case, if they like someone for the crime, they're instantly going completely silently shift their focus when it comes to evidence to only see everything that supports it and nothing that contradicts it, unless it's some insane smoking gun thing that can't be finessed away, like eyewitness testimony and poo poo it bleeds up into the prosecution putting their case together, it's why defense attorneys are maybe the only lawyers worth a poo poo when it comes to that "vigorous defense" and enforcing all the byzantine gotcha rules of court for their client

Canada is about to swing hard right next election I'm guessing and the only thing people seemed concerned about is how stuff should be cheaper and that we pay too much tax. From co workers and people I know they're just blaming poor people and immigrants instead of the rich extracting every mineral out of the ground and making massive profits and using covid/inflation as justification for making everything more expensive

America tried paying people to stay home until it exposed how many jobs are useless drudgery, and people who had free time to protest hit the streets to try to tear down the racist system. There are plenty of examples of countries that actually handled it well. Taiwan, New Zealand, and Australia had great responses at first, until they gave up. As you can see from the chart, vaccines helped against the death rate, but then provided political cover for Biden to declare victory over covid in the summer. The widespread use of paxlovid this year also greatly lowered the death rate, but even that is getting overwhelmed with the constant spread of the virus.  The unchecked pandemic is the third-biggest crime against humanity perpetrated by the US in the last twenty years. I don't have much patience for people who say that the crime against humanity is good, and people who try to stop it are bad.
