Between that and the historically bad attempts at various animals I am wondering if the problem is just vexillolographers.

Mister Speaker posted:I think Hungarian has a similar thing with 'S' and 'SZ'. I should really know that, because my last name has that thing going on too. Yeah, S and SZ are the same as the English sh and s, respectively. Hungarians don't usually mess them up though. The one we struggle with is the 'th' sound. Usually comes out as a 't', 'd' or 's'. Always fun to hear people say stuff like 'sink' instead of 'think'.

Mister Speaker posted:Is that a Spanish thing? I know in the American Southwest there's a similar 'P'/'V' mix, but I'm not sure if that's directly from Spanish or from its permutations in the colonies. The term 'buckaroo' comes from the Spanish word for cowboy, 'vaquero', for example. Your mom and I also had a P/V mix-up recently

Had to lol at the Behind the Bastards episode where Robert talked about the Agape Lodge and its sex magic cult and pronounced it "a-gape" and thought it was some kind of goatse reference

My wife has a crazy aunt that used to be an annoying but harmless crank but got really into Alex Jones and probably Q or whatever more recently. Anyway, when my eldest was born their middle name was from my wife's grandmother, that aunt's mom, so I guess she felt compelled to write us a letter congratulating us. She signed it "agape" apparently meaning the Greek word for Christian love (also a weird choice for her since she's Jewish) and not slack-jawed.

I know what the word is pronounced like and still pronounce it like something has been goatmanned because goatse is way more relevant to my life than some 2,000 year old Greek word.
