By passing off counterfeits, do you mean trading them for real cards, or just passing them off as real in tournaments. Because yeah im not gonna trade my deck lol. I need that to play. If I wanna try a different deck, I'll order another set of "proxies" for like 1/100th of the price

presumably selling/trading them for real cards or money

on the plus side, while a lot of the Chinese black core cards are pretty much impossible to visually suss out if they’re double sleeved, they’re actually pretty easy to detect if you know what to look for (generally the light test is sufficient, no need to bust out a loupe or scale)

Standard owns right now. There are several decks that absolutely dumpster mono black, so you get this over-meta of those decks fighting with each other while mono black kills everything else.

Greasefang is definitely the new hotness in Explorer, and probably Pioneer as well. The Abzan version is the most powerful and consistent version in Bo3. I've posted a bunch about it in the Arena thread, because the deck is insane. It combos off on turn 3 or 4 more often than not, and once I had it go off on turn 2 (t1 stitcher supplier hit greasefang and parhelion, turn 2 Can't Stay Away). The deck laughs at sorcery speed graveyard hate, since Grisly Salvage and Corpse Churn are both instants. I've been hit by Go Blank, only to cast Salvage on their eot and topdeck a greasefang to go off. The only GY hate that really works against it is Unlicensed Hearse and Scavenging Ooze. Repeatable, instant-speed GY hate.

I made a series of bad investments. Tarantula farm. The bottom fell out of the market.

Having an existential crisis. After selling anything worth more than $5 and resigning myself to just having four archival boxes of bulk forever, I found out an LGS buys bulk. So I could liquidate everything. Before this knowledge, I was thinking about making little weak constructed battleboxes from each block but now I'm thinking about how much work that is and whether or not it will ever pay off, when I could just wait until inspiration strikes and build equivalently low-power decks for very cheap. I could pull out everything worth $1+ to keep "just in case" (lol) and the rest would disappear, gone forever. It's been three days and I'm not closer to knowing what I'm gonna do!

It Was All A Dream
Played an RCQ with creativity this weekend. I took Mengucci's list and got rid of leyline of the voids in the SB because I really hate the mulligan process of them in this deck. I kept ending up with a leyline + archon hand which felt like a double mull when it got hit with a petty theft EOT turn 2. Replaced with turn the earth which was an all star for me.

Round 1: 4c omnath
2-0
Creativity claps this deck and it is almost never close. opponent was also not familiar with the matchup even though he is a good player overall. peak - Ice a blue source end step and creativity for two forcing a 4 card hand dump from opponent to solitude twice on tokens. untapped and did it again.

Round 2: burn
1-2
Cannot win this matchup reasonably

round 3: 5c rhinos
2-1
This is a tight matchup game 1 because there are lots of dead cards. post board with 3x fluster 1x gust and 2x veil feels great. their best play is suspending rhinos on 1, keep bindings in for that

round 4: Murktide
2-1
Matchup feels good, leyline binding is incredible against murktide. prioritize killing drc over ragavan if you have to choose, but you can usually 1-1 your removal to their threats. they cant afford to drop a counterspell on that otherwise you will resolve creativity and murder them.

Round 5: Living End
2-1
split first two games and its very close and then opponent double griefs me but turn the earth is immune to it. resolved LE but only got street wraith and one of the smaller cyclers. survived to hardcast archon a few turns later

round 6: ID (opponent was on rhinos)

top 8 was 3 people on new rhinos including my round 3 opponent. No 4c, no murktide made the cut. I lost game 1 then got a work email that couldnt wait and conceded to my opponent. dont know what the results of the event were beyond that

Deck
3 Teferi, Time Raveler
4 Wrenn and Six
4 Archon of Cruelty
4 Indomitable Creativity
1 Transmogrify
3 Fire // Ice
3 Lightning Bolt
2 Prismari Command
3 Spell Pierce
4 Fable of the Mirror-Breaker
4 Leyline Binding
4 Arid Mesa
1 Blood Crypt
3 Bloodstained Mire
4 Dwarven Mine
1 Ketria Triome
1 Mountain
1 Raugrin Triome
1 Sacred Foundry
3 Scalding Tarn
2 Steam Vents
1 Stomping Ground
2 Wooded Foothills
1 Ziatora's Proving Ground

Sideboard
1 Aether Gust
2 Boseiju, Who Endures
1 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
3 Flusterstorm
2 Nature's Claim
3 Turn the Earth

I'm pretty sure I was at the same RCQ as you, I borrowed my friends living end deck and was 3-1-1 and 9th going into round 6, then made a brutal mis-fetch in game one of round 6 and eventually lost the match.
