I'm about to finish my last Legionaries and am looking towards building my Corsairs- is there any consensus on what a best case Corsair kill-team looks like? I'm looking to face Vet Guard, Craftworld, Death Guard and Ad Mech.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I did a quick skim on the TG threads and didn't see a specific one for The Lord of the Rings game, so... is the new box set a revamp of the rules, or just a new starter box, and can I get away with just running a lost of "All the different Ringwraiths and Nazghul GW released"? I showed my wife the set earlier while waiting for the League set to go up for pre-order and now she's trying to decide which minis to buy for it.

I don't think it's a major revision of the rules, but the answer to all of your questions depends entirely on with whom you're playing and how you want to play.

If you're just playing with your wife, then you can run whatever lists you want for whatever experience you want.

I'm still using the rules from back in the day so I have no idea if the current revision has strict list building requirements. But those literally only matter if you're playing in a tournament.

People tend not to bother with the heavy gunners, I don't know if the box supports it but there's a use case for both the blaster and the shredder.

Other than that the specialists are all more useful than a standard corsair. The only one you may want to swap out for a rifle corsair is the birdguy, who is otherwise just a guy with power sword and a little extra.

A rifle may be better than a neuro disruptor on the felarch under the assumption that you may get shot off the board by the time you get into pistol range, but it will have play into Death guard.

I remember a bit about original Warcry being fairly tied to specific terrain setups. Is that still the case with the new edition?

That wasn't really the case. The terrain sets came with a deck of cards that had presets for the terrain that you could use, but you could use any terrain you wanted and still can. They were just suggestions, basically. The game works fine with any terrain. I never had any of the official terrain and we just set the terrain up however we wanted.

So I managed to put together the Chaos Legionary and Elucidian Starstriders killteams this weekend, is there any beginner tips I should know about before I play my first Kill Team games on Friday?

Read the vision rules again and write down what light cover and vantage points do.

You'll forget all your rules. Just barrel ahead.

The first game will take at least two hours.

Thanks! Good to know about the bird guy- I'm having similar thoughts about the Medic, as I don't know how many chances they'd get to do their thing with Corsairs being so fragile. So for a tentative list, I'm looking at:

Felarch (not sure on the loadout yet)
Starstorm Duellist
Shade Runner
Kurnathi
Fate Dealer
Way Seeker
Gunner (prob. Blaster?)
2 Rifle Warriors

I don't really want to buy another box, so I'm just trying to get the most bang for my buck in a pretty casual meta.

They’re an AoS box that has a conversion spruce with the pistols and chainswords. I think most Thousand Sons players stick with the tzaangor blades that come in the AoS box.

Huh, when I did a search for Tzaangor on the site, that box didn't pop up at all, just the Tzaangors on the discs.

You'll have to bash together either the Kurnathi or the Fate Dealer, since they use the same base model. I was kind of pissed to find out I need another box to actually deploy every specialist.

Makes me wonder how much of that is intentional and how much of it is sprue design related. Can't be sure either way

That, I'm not worried about. I did the same for my Legionairies to have a range of gunners.

I would blindly guess they've told the sculptor to make sure each dude can be built two ways and that there should be enough bodies for a full team. They could easily slap in an extra operative, but otoh they could also put in more bitz and hobbyists love bitz.

I'm frankly surprised there are two Kroot hounds on the sprue. Someone noticed they have GA 2 I guess.

Mistakes may have been made. Mrs Randalor went to the local GW after work to pick up AoS minis for her Spooky Town display (hey, they're cheaper than Lemax minis and the bar for paint jobs is... low) and came home with the two LotR Battlehosts and the old Battle of Pellinor Field starter box, along with an order for the new starter box.

The new battlehosts look to be a decent value, but there aren't many in the way of actually new models, which is just something to be aware of. I'm going to pick up my Elrond today, which is a new sculpt, and I am very excited to get to painting him.

A shop near me is finally doing a small Kill Team league, and I've been wanting to try it out for a long time so I'm probably gonna jump in. Really want those Kroot, but I don't think they'll be out before the games start, so I'm looking at picking up The Blooded instead for now. Is one box enough to field a full tournament-style roster, or do I need to pick up another? I've got a few of the BSF Traitor Guard kicking around my pile of shame if I just need a few standard riflemen, but the only special weapon they've got is a flamer.

Assuming I have a kill team, the rulebook + the special compendium thing that my specific team shows up in, and that little essentials pack that is like measuring tools, barricades, and cards, is there anything else I'd need? It sounds like the store has terrain covered.

Siivola
Dec 23, 2012

If you're starting from scratch and want to play Kroot, the Into the Dark box has all that and a poo poo ton of terrain for the price of all the things bought separately.

A tournament roster is up to 20 models so one box wob't be enough, but you can cover most of your bases with a box.

If they have a bomb squig (unlikely anyone will) kill it as fast as humanly possible. Other than that, watch out for the knife guy who can charge from concealed, and watch for the breacher forward deploying and coming through a wall to charge. If the opponent takes climbing ropes, be ready for some hopping up on vantages most models would not normally be able to. Other than that, they are fairly straightforward.

Yeah they all can do ninja charges. I will have to watch out for deployment so I don't get bum rushed turn one. Outside of 8 kommando teams it seems I also have to prepare for pathfinders and intercessors (6 teams both). Some mad men are taking gellerpox and breachers

Played my first game of ITD today and accidentally picked one of the narrative missions because I didn't see there were symmetrical, competitive missions in the back of the book. We both played teams we haven't played before and I finally got to use my corsairs.

This is the coolest poo poo. I lost badly because corsairs are hard to play. But man, I wish the guard action (basically xcom overwatch) was something in regular KT. It also went pretty fast because we didn't spend forever measuring sight lines and poo poo.

drat, from this shot those Voidscarred Corsairs look amazing! I'm just finishing up my ItD terrain but I'm so excited for the new ruleset and getting to play it soon. I'm still trying to get a group of people playing locally, but I think I'm finally starting to make some headway!

I expect corsairs will be good in ITD when people figure them out more. Lots of power weapons, speedy, double activations for opening doors etc.

Thank you, I had a lot of fun making the corsairs. They're very killy but also very fragile, i'm used to my indestructible nurgle legionnaires and it's definitely going to take a few games to get used to them. But ItD is really awesome and so cool looking. It's certainly different than base KT and it's a fun change.

Ok thanks. I don't think they'd be able to work around that by basing material on the original source, either, given that so much of the Amazon show is original content.

That is, GW has already produced minis for book content not appearing in the film (like the Scouring.)
