It’s still nuts to me that Cyberpunk went from being possibly the most anticipated game of the last 10 years to a game so unsellable that Best Buy was giving it away and digital storefronts stopped selling it because they didn’t want to deal with an association with it and a continuous high volume of refund requests.

Despite having skipped the game because I don't like first-person perspective, I binged the anime this weekend and loved it. That said, I've been into the style for a long time, having played Netrunner/Shadowrun and read Gibson/Stephenson. They really did a good job with this one, and think that having Mike Pondsmith involved helped keep it true.

"Ah," Ratz had said, at last, "the artiste."
Haven't played the updated C2077 but playing it at launch I could tell it was a KOTOR2 situation where a good game was hiding underneath the severe bugs and unfinished parts and bad combat and that it would eventually be polished up and come into it's own

And if it took the kind of perverts who love lolita anime to make that happen well hell welcome aboard perverts

Unless the updates added a substantial amount of content to the open world, I don't see myself enjoying Cyberpunk very much. The game is apparently less of an RPG and more of a GTA in practice, but it really doesn't feel like it's supposed to be, so I can't really get into that mindset and enjoy it.

It isn’t very GTA at all, it’s definitely more RPG than that. Only just though.

It’s nowhere near as reactive as their other games, it’s very railroady with very little you can do to influence the story beyond your ending choices right at the end of the game.

Tbf you have to unlock some of those end choices by completing optional side quests that are among the best content in the game. I'm down on CP2077 overall -- I did not get a sense of a good game underneath all the flaws, my sense was a fundamental incoherence among the various systems, the final result being less than the sum of its parts -- but I liked how the ending was handled.

Modern New Vegas was what I went in expecting, what I got was Fallout but without all the exploration or questlines or NPCs. Better combat at least but that's about the last thing I care about in these games.

From what I played of the main story, that seemed decent enough, but everything else was boring as hell.

"Ah," Ratz had said, at last, "the artiste."
I never beat C2077 so I assume all the big choices happen later, but even just walking around talking to people and getting little minor differences in dialogue or plot without changing it was cool, like how what you do with Jackie's body can lead to an incredibly elaborate wake at the bar, even if it doesn't actually 'change' the plot before or after much. Stuff like that was far more interesting to me than not being able to do GTA car chases, though eventually the bugs got too bad to continue regardless.

Once you get past the heist the rear end absolutely falls out of the game. Nothing else beyond that has even 10% of the same care and attention given to it.

as much as i couldn't stand cyberpunk at launch, i'm willing to give a development team a second chance and try a game that they've been hard at work updating for months and months.

i almost jumped on the 9.99 ps4 disc version bc why not. but truth is, god of war is right around the corner and my backlog is already filled with stuff i actually want to play that i can't imagine i'd ever get around to cp2077 before it eventually becomes free on ps++ or something
