I tried to beat this and played it on emulator just to not deal with the 32 character password system, but joke was on me cause turned out whatever emulator I was using crashes on the final boss and only the final boss.

This would have blown my mind if I had played it on the Wii. Still holds up with a controller nowadays.

Contra (NES) - Pretty hard thanks to the random troll enemies but I finally got a run to stage 7 with all my continues and managed to beat it.

  • Syringe (6 maps for Doom II, 2019, UVMax pistol start). 3/5. Maps 1, 2 & 5 of this are pretty great, especially MAP05, a very exciting, dense moon-themed hotstart map with a big focus on managing rockets in close quarters. like half of this set is great and the other half is big stinkers. especially map06. a platforming heavy map that you have to do 4 times over, unlocking new paths each time. sucks. no fun! would recommend checking out half of this set though.

Yeah we played through the first level and it's crazy how different it is, I don't think the Umbrella was on the Havoc engine. The new engine and different ways to upgrade your weapons makes it feel pretty fresh

  • The Eye (1 level for Doom II, UV). 3/5. good concept map of a huge circular level; you can go either way at the beginning and eventually you return to the first room w/ all 3 keys and enter a final tower climb finale. design wise its impressively constructed and the outer perimeter had a nice variety of rooms+fights. what really drags it down is the finale, theres just not enough ammo available for the amount of enemies + archviles that get piled into this tower. wound up being quite frustrated in the final stretch.

Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins. I hadn't replayed this in a long while and it was fun. The space themed world and the final castle are particularly cool and I love how especially goofy Wario looks in this.

It's really good + the increasingly dramatic music stings that happen whenever Wario does a phase change were an incredible choice by the sound designer lol

Strange Horticulture - Elderphinium Ending, All Plants Identified

Never heard of this game before today but it blew me away. I was looking for a creative mystery/deduction game and a friend pointed me to this and it was really fun. The deduction part is all about identifying plants from vague descriptions and also features puzzle solving, working out clues on a map, and a decently interesting spooky story. Fantastic little game.
