So, on one of deployments we lost one of our SAW gunners and his weapon had to be sent in for repairs. It made it's way back to the unit but not back onto the arms room list. We get back from country and the E4 in charge of the armsroom decides to sell the SAW to another idiot. Que our first 100% and the officer in charge of it knows we should have that gun. For a couple hours I think they were getting scared that they were gonna have to report it up to higher and probably shut down the post. The SAW did make it's way back thankfully. I do know some optics that disappeared but I don't think those are counted as carefully as firearms since I once had to count a box of those aimpoint pros I forget the nomenclature for. Probably could have gotten a cargo pockets worth.

A lieutenant in my old unit was approached by NCOs in his platoon about some PEQ-15 lasers in the arms room that weren't on the books and wanted to take them. LT thinks this is a great idea and approaches his commander about getting in on it! I saw him being escorted into the brigade commander's office but I'm not sure what the exact consequences were.

The arm's rooms in brigade combat teams are so frequently used/inventoried that I have a hard time seeing any sensitive items go missing from them other than through damaging or losing individual items in the field. I think more likely is they go missing through some kind of bureaucratic gently caress up like with a unit being deactivated or a support unit of some kind that never goes to the field and thus never uses their weapons.

Stuff that isn't on the books is generally pretty easy to get away with though. Units can use their own funds to buy stuff and that poo poo almost never ends up on the books. Like say a commander wants to buy some fancy dismount assault packs, those things will absolutely no longer be with the unit once all the people using them leave. The S4 shop is 100% the shadiest in a unit, and the amount of shadiness definitely correlates with how good they are too.

All it takes is to remove one from the property list, then pass it on to the next guy. It's that simple. If enough people half rear end it, it will be long gone before anyone important notices. It might get found eventually, but the thing is long gone, as is the guy who took it.

It will probably get found out at some point- at which CPT Half rear end just ignores it.

It's not common anymore, but it still happens.

Weed helps. I don't remember dreams. As far as I can tell, when I do finally get to sleep, waking up is like flicking a switch. I was asleep, now I'm awake.

I'm sure it's suppressing something in a way that's unhealthy, but I get sleep if I smoke daily. I can stretch that to about once every five days. If I dry out for a week, I can get sleep in weird nap phases that might get up to 4 hours a day. With it, I average 6 hours in mostly one stretch.

My ex-wife would tell me when I was dry for a few weeks, I'd start screaming in my sleep. I'd get up and walk around the house from time to time and not remember how I wound up sleeping on the living room floor. Once woke up in a lawn chair in the back yard. With weed, I slept like a stone, didn't wander, got about 6 hours.

Not saying it's a cure all or anything, for all the noise it cancels, there's definitely static. Too much static just drowns everything else out.

The “storm stays offshore and lashes the coast with its east side” forecasts were bad for Tampa, but this bad for all of central Florida. It’s cutting across the whole peninsula.

It won’t stay category 5 the whole way, but it’s still going to hurt as it comes out the other side.

The hope is that land interaction weakens it. The hurricane force wind probability chart makes the wind threat more of an issue for that swath from Port Charlotte up to the wasteland south of Polk County. Storm surge will be an issue for everyone, especially on the north and east side of the storm.

https://www.weather.gov/media/tbw/dssbriefs/dssbrief.pdf

NWS is pushing the new threat is inland flooding from the 2ft of rain this is going to drop over 36 hours on central Florida. Stay inside, don’t drive if you can avoid it, don’t drive through flood water, evacuate if you are at risk for flooding.

https://twitter.com/NHC_Surge/status/1575080575618076674?t=tRxB4SpxqTqLHJ9XMut6XQ&s=19

From what I'm reading/hearing, Tampa Bay isn't built to deal with storm surges that high, as the whole city hasn't had a direct hit in a long time, if ever. The city is basically built for a storm surge of only two feet and it's predicted at 4-6 feet.
