big nipples big life posted:how high off the ground is cam 9? Initially the host said 8 feet, but he mentioned something about how the two installers stood on each other's shoulders to mount it so it may be closer to 10. If that's a 10 foot surge... goddamn. Edit: As of 1:49 EST he did say it's 10-12 feet. Jesus. funeral home DJ fucked around with this message at 18:49 on Sep 28, 2022 |

This SevereStudios stream is so boring, especially when I'm mostly just listening while feigning doing work. Mostly just thanking subs and dead air. I need my sentient can of Monster Energy, where's Jeff at?

are palm trees the strongest of the trees?

They're built for it. High flex, minimum spread to catch wind.

I had a palm in Houston and the winter killed it and I've always kind of thought they were pussies after that.

Ehud posted:https://twitter.com/BirdingPeepWx/status/1575180191265353728?s=20&t=kEonlwfnNjkkvI2rMY959Q Sanibel is super chill. One of the places Floridians go on vacation within Florida. Everyone is really nice and it is/was a nice place to be. Up in Citrus County the birds hosed off for the last two days, but came back today. It's only the biggest birds, but that seems like a good sign. Or not, you never know around here. Now is the time to eat a poo poo ton of food, drink a bunch of beers, and chain smoke before you can't even go outside. During Irma we evacuated to Bushnell, which is fairly close to where we are now. Lots of wind, lots of downed limbs, nothing too bad. Doesn't keep me from getting anxious as hell (that's what the beer's for!).

Ft. Myers beach is turbo-hosed. I just got word the Big Carlos pass bridge is damaged and Estero Blvd is partially washed away in several places across Long Key. I have a relative that works for a large utility (LOL) and they have access to EMS and Police reports during severe storms. This is going to be a multi-billion dollar storm.

Youth Decay posted:One thing I've noticed about most of the houses on Florida's coast and coastal islands, most of them aren't raised like beach houses in other places like Galveston and the Outer Banks, or at least not as high. They seem to mostly be single-level ranches. Is that just hubris? His house is actually on stilts. I've been to it a few times. I don't think the destruction will be as bad as you'd think - I've stayed there when a random wind storm came through with 75+ mph winds, and the place didn't budge. Can't speak for those other houses, though. That just sounds really dumb.
