Here's the thing, I'm a feminist.

Ken Jeong is on The Masked Singer and if the advertisement saturation is any indication that show is on every day for at least six hours so I imagine Jeong is crashing in a sleeping bag on the set

the last samurai is extremely historically inaccurate and has a cartoon depiction of Japan but idk even most japanese people don't care that much afaict.

however there were not ninjas in the Meiji period!! it's like making a movie about George Washington where he fights alongside a Texas cowboy or something

Based on that one scene I think comic book people just think a movie where actors tell the story through acting rather than exposition and action is somehow "advanced" rather than "basic" in the fundimental sense

because the writing and acting weren't really stand out there, definitely professionals did it but like even rookie players are "professionals" in sports

It's very rare that a sex or nudity scene moves the story forward in hollywood films & TV so its good we're more matured now.

I think typical sex scenes and scenes where a character points a gun at another character to make them do something have been my least favorite part of almost any movie they happen in.

Yojimbo does the gun thing well

Lost Highway does the sex scene well

it's about storytelling

Makes sense that a lot of virgins would end up seeing watchmen in theatres. I hope someone explained to them how sexual intercourse works. It must have been very scary for them, very troubling

There are plenty of other spectacle-type scenes that don't move the narrative forward and they have not been completely excised from cinema

A fist-fight scene doesn't move the narrative forward except in that one person wins -- you could "fade-to-black" that too and just show one person all beat up and the other one not, but it is generally accepted that everybody likes to see fist-fights and it's not stigmatized in any way. The same goes for larger-scale battles -- you can usually tell pretty easily from looking at a battle's aftermath who won and who lost. Dancing scenes, a lot of songs (counting the ones that take 2 minutes 35 seconds to communicate what could have been a single line of dialogue), etc. I'm not saying to cut out everything fun from movies, I'm saying that people are completely okay with stuff in movies being there just for fun, with this one exception, because American society is particularly prudish.

A lot of conversations don't move the narrative but characterize the participants; sex scenes (and fist-fights!) could do this too

The prolonged sex scene in Watchmen did move the narrative forward, actually; it illustrated that getting to be a hero again restored Dreiberg's shattered confidence

dance / music scenes also are a huge problem. and pointless fight scenes. They work okay as exposition, but often they start and end and nothing has changed. they could be excised to no detriment, and so they should be. its got nothing to do with prudishness but that does add a layer to sex scenes being not only unnecessary but unwanted

all those kinds of scenes are good if they have exposition, stakes, tension, revelation or whatever. purpose. But a lot of times the story is on pause so we can watch titties or hear a nice song. I can stream those on the internet now, theaters no longer serve that purpose

The last season seems to get pretty mixed reviews. I really like it - I think being put on a streaming network that was doomed to fail from the start was kind of a perfectly meta ending for the meta show about a lovely college where pop-culture inspired hijinks happened. But beyond that, I think it freed them up a bit to do some more unconventional bits they might have otherwise not gotten to do if they were still on Network TV.

If you like the show, I strongly recommend just watching the final episode of S6 because it really is a great send off for the characters and setting.
