Also re: miserable games

A lot of people who play tank don't realize they are essentially twice as powerful as any other character on the map, and refuse to take space. Taking space has always been one of the concepts that is hardest for bad OW players to understand, and buffed tanks should make it in general easier. However, tanks that don't know their strengths and won't contest objectives or push at the right times will make your games miserable. Play a support, and give them the confidence they need to push the W key more than the S key.

Honestly I'm having a lot more fun with this at launch than I was in the beta, I guess because so many people are playing that matches usually aren't always my rusty rear end getting steamrolled by a bunch of master rank players. The monetization sucks rear end but I just kind of don't give a poo poo about it so it doesn't matter. JQ is really entertaining to play as.

No, they said playing Damage is miserable. Damage role got instantly stronger with the removal of second tanks and the addition of the role passive (which I don't think many people even know about). Even characters that got numbers nerfed feel better thanks to other changes. Soldier does less damage per shot, but spread and recoil feel much better. Flanking feels safer and more impactful, scrums aren't relegated to shield spam and shield breaking races, and slower ult generation in general favors consistent output.

Literally every role feels better because the 1-2-2 lineup is a much better core design and balance than 2-2-2 ever was.

So far my experience has been that a team needs at least one damage dealing support. Two is preferable. Having two support that barely dps like Ana & Mercy together just doesn't cut. This is bad for me as a Mercy main and making playing her more miserable than I remember.

You should pick mercy in situations where you can synergize with a DPS. Ashe, Echo, Pharah, Bastion are pretty good Mercy companions.

edit: probably hog and sigma for tank synergy? They are both tanks that put out good damage, so an incidental boost could be the difference between getting kills and not getting kills

Mercy is probably the hardest to kill in pure bullet hell mode. That plus res can be enough to win fights.

Somehow the trash fire launch of this game has brought me back after many years of being away. That and the Kiriko short. I can't help but wonder what even makes this an Overwatch 2 because I just feel like I jumped back into the same exact game I was playing years ago. Not entirely a bad thing though, I've hopped back into familiar skills very quickly as a result.

Hero Gauntlet is a really cool FFA Deathmatch concept, somehow won my first try at it. Good to see Mystery Hero is still a mainstay mode too since I'm ever so indecisive about who I wanna play.

Her survivability and damage output depend upon your team composition. If you are just picking her because you want the res (also some synergy with Zarya bubble there), you probably aren't getting the most out of her. She does best in comps where she can mostly spend her time pocketing someone and increasing their output. That's why Pharmacy has always been a thing; it makes the mercy even harder to kill and increases the effectiveness of Pharah by a large margin. Echo is a similar story. Aside from that, any character where you can switch to boost to complement CDs is very nice. If you are picking her on teams that aren't making the most of boost or have heroes that put her in risky situations too often (like divey characters), she is a poor pick. She also doesn't do very much in terms of AoE healing most of the time.

I haven't played all that much because I was working all week but today I got a good afternoon 4 hour session today to play comp. I'm already at BP level 25 and only have the Coin Line weekly to go. Seems like most people would be able to unlock the new character for free in the second or third week.

If I had to estimate, it seems like a full unlock would take 25-30 hours over a long period of time (like contributing to it every week over the course of the whole season), or 35-40 over a short period (trying to unlock it all ASAP).

ana/mercy is fine

it's easy for ana to get a lot of value because of her nade

you need to focus on getting value as mercy by peeling for the ana, trying to enable the dps to get flanks/different angles/high ground, and using your mobility to be unkillable. if your team is all immobile front-liners and they don't have a sniper it's probably hard to find value as mercy compared to another support, however.

yeah, that's been my experience in most games so far. standing still and slugging it out front to back usually ends up coming down to raw numbers, and only flanks or creative angles to access the backline can end up swinging things the other way

hell, even just getting up on a ledge and nailing a support with a kiriko kunai can force them to start backing off or divert attention away and give your team more punching power

to be fair, i think having at least 1 main healer is way easier for most tanks to play on the ladder

most tank players aren't going to adjust their play to compensate for lower healing and just feed

I am all for the change in the team dynamic by getting rid of a tank, but at least make an effort to decrease the wild pathings of the legacy maps (they clearly considered the new team sizes on the robot escort map). I appreciate the change from day to night on some, but with 1 less meat shield a rogue damage can kinda ruin the day.

Also, I love how they still have the commentary kill count go up to "sextuple kill" even though it isn't possible in regular maps with the new team sizes (I guess theoretically it is, like a player is killed and a mercy resses them).

He jumped behind it to duck for cover, but then I briefly stopped my ult to psych him out as to which way I would go around the corner. I resumed firing into him as I turned the corner, just in time to knock him off the edge for an environmental kill and threw off the aim of his ult at the same time.

Feels good, man.

Also, Rein feels so, so much better to play as now than in OW1. I charged into the enemy team on the last point on Junkertown, steering at crazy trajectories to squish a healer. Then I used my ult and absolutely went to town scattering and wrecking their team. :hellyeah:

What healers and hero compositions pair well with Baptiste?

comedyblissoption
Mar 15, 2006

baptiste is pretty good if you have at least 2 other shootmans (any role) for your ult so you can get more value

baptiste struggles if you have a dive-y or flying dps comp (e.g. genji/tracer/echo/pharah) b/c it's pretty hard to hit the slow-traveling heals and you don't have the mobility to keep up. I think keeping a solo dive tank (ball/d.va/winston/doomfist) up as baptiste from long range is workable if you can land the shots.

baptiste is the hardest support to play I think b/c to optimize him you have to constantly be target switching between healing and shooting. the general guideline is shoot twice, heal once, loop.

Just a friendly reminder of what it looks like.

We'll do punctuation later.
lucio, ana, zen and brig all pair well with baptiste. he works best with comps where the team plays more grouped up - so zarya, rein, jq, sigma and orisa as far as tanks go.

easier to land burst with his MB2, especially against fast targets like tracer, biotic field is excellent team utility, and tact visor is still a foolproof way to wipe backline if they're caught in the open and you time it right
