Having just gotten through them: it sucks right up until you get the first "several cutscenes in a row" prompt, at which point it tops the quality of any of the other storylines (including msq) that I've touched so far. I'm hopeful Heavensward can keep the standards of the 2.55 end sequence going. For my own progress: unlocked Machinist, and without a hunting log I can tell this is going to take goddamn forever. Very slow dungeon queues and a pittance of XP from dungeons. But hey, now I have Paladin at 52 (hate tanking with a passion and will probably not return to it), Dragoon at 55, and Machinist just started, plus a couple jobs in the 20s... just can't make me play a healer.

I actually think the 2.x MSQ is a little underrated as it sets up a lot of world building and introduces you to characters that will be very important later on. But it is pretty slow. 2.55 is stupid. It's the WoL at their dumbest and most passive (until Stormblood I suppose) and I hate it. I like 2.2 through 2.5 though. The main ARR story should have been Alphinaud building the Crystal Braves not the rushed Scions stuff.

I feel that ARR seriously drops the ball with regards to establishing characters you'd care about beyond being generic quest givers, and the whole bunch of new characters they drop on you to establish stuff for the future (I'm explicitly thinking of Yugiri and the Domans, and frankly the Domans get more to them when you're escorting them to Mor Dhona than Yugiri does) is not exactly thrilling. I think I said to a friend while going through the 2.X stuff a few months ago: "ARR didn't do anything to endear me to any of these characters, so why should I care about these new people they introduced?" I was told it gets a lot better in Heavensward (and it absolutely does!) but the anticipation of getting there made 2.X a slog.

I have completed 10 of the masked carnivale missions. Looking at list of other missions, they seem doable but goodness gracious these things can be a beating. Fingers crossed siegfried is easier than the blue mage man previous. He probably isn't.

I tend to use the gear from Final Coil to save on poetics when I get a new job to 50. Helps that I can solo all of it, so an hour or so unsyncing gets me a full set of 130 that I'd normally have to drop a ton of poetics on. Ditto the 60 raid series.

Well, I finally started Endwalker and lost my sprout. I enjoyed Shadowbringers quite a bit, especially spending the back half of the game anticipating finally getting to punch Emet-Selch in the face and then doing it. The environments were great, the new characters were fun, the story was outstanding, and I enjoyed the opportunity to run dungeons solo with the Scions. Things haven't improved much on the villain front though. Zenos hasn't gotten any more interesting in one and a half expansions, but at least he's not wearing that hideous armor anymore. And Fandaniel isn't impressing me either -- Asahi was more interesting by himself than serving as a vessel for a poncy Joker wannabe. Also, I am so. very. tired. of cutscenes that are just the various Scions standing around discussing where they're going to go next.

Yeah, I stalled out at #27, because I read "fiddly puzzle fight" and kind of lost momentum. Just have to get back in the mood, especially since I've just got the Carnivale and like one spell left before BLU endgame (which is... cheevos? Farming mogtomes?)

BLU endgame after the carnival is basically getting together BLU groups to wombo combo old savage content and waiting patiently (or impatiently) for them to release more BLU stuff

Are BLUs allowed to do any of the content past lv70? How much can a team of BLUs clear if they can?

The last spell you don't have is probably Angel Whisper, the resurrection spell, which is unlocked by completing 30 Carnivale stages. Yeah, I did all of them except 29 which I heard was a serious pain. And since the achievements and such were for doing thirty total, which I've done, the incentive to go back and do 29 is very low.

My first time as healer in a dungeon (Satasha) and we wiped Probably avoidable if I was a little better with the timing of my buttons, but the tank was also really aggressively pulling mobs, and I did say this was my first time healing. *Desperately heals the tank as they reach 50 hp* "Huzzah, I succeeded at my job." "Oh, the tank is getting dangerously close to 50hp again I better heal them" (Tbf I started the cast just as they dipped below half, they had THAT many mobs on them) *tank dies mid Cure cast* "Oh no." *tries to cast Raise but gets killed by the mobs who switch to me* (I did not yet have Swift cast as Conjuror as I was level 16) I apologized, and somehow still got three commendations.

Yeah before you get your oGCD heals dungeons can be quite stressful. Just take a deep breath, be mindful of the tank's pulls (if he's got more than three packs on him you'll probably need to chain heals), and don't panic. Good job on not panicking and going straight for the raise. You weren't going to pull it off but at least you tried.

Also, personal experience, tanking at those low levels is tough for someone whose only previous experience of tanking is watching people to wall to walls of post ARR dengeons, which doesn’t really translate to the satasha’s of the game. It’s easy to overpull, and also be overconfident of the heals because you don’t understand how healing works. Basically don’t sweat it.

It even happens to high level experienced healers who forget that they don't have a bunch of stuff available and don't get GCD heals out in time on the first big pull. Kind of funny honestly.

Healing big pulls below level 60 or so is a pretty different experience compared to what people usually talk about or are used to when giving advice. Tbh in a place like Sastasha, the key piece of advice is to just get used to how long cure take to cast, so you're more thinking about how much HP the tank will have in a second than how much they have now. But nobody who isn't an rear end in a top hat can fault you for not getting it right in your very first Sastasha

S.J. posted:It even happens to high level experienced healers who forget that they don't have fixed but yeah, early healing where you are missing the majority of your kit (and with the tank in a similar position and likely little to none dps aoe) and the only walls are in your mind is a very, very different beast from healing exdr that being said, the fundamentals are the same; don't cast heals when you don't need to and do dps when you can. you just have less "oh poo poo!" buttons available to slam if you misjudge things so it's probably better to play conservatively until you get a feel for things Oneiros fucked around with this message at 05:34 on Oct 11, 2022 |

I recommend taking breaks, 2.x can be very draining and I don't recommend trying to force yourself through it on the premise of "it gets better" (It totally does, though). There's a very special questline available to you now that starts from Wymond in Ul'dah. Otherwise, poke at whatever crafting, gathering, or alternate class strikes your fancy. If you've bought the expansions, Samurai and Red Mage are available, and even on the free trial, you can start Blue Mage if you'd like.

Samurai is an okay class that people don't like in raids, but those people are fools. Samurai puts out the big DPS numbers, that's all you need, it also has the most Japanese flair in its abilities. Red Mage is flexible, nimble, has tons of neat spells and a melee combo, plus at higher levels you've got clutch instant cast Resurrection. All that said, play whatever class you find fun, any composition can clear any content as long as you play well and use your cooldowns when necessary.
|
# ? Oct 11, 2022 09:19 |

Generally if you aren't going for Week 1 clears of an entire Savage tier, composition does not matter that much since by the time it becomes relevant (for example, the DPS check in P8S), you'll have gear that offsets the DPS issue and makes the DPS check much less of a chore. In week 1, however, having meta comps gives you a much bigger cushion for making mistakes. As an example, this is currently the composition for our static: Tanks: Warrior and Paladin (currently the two lowest dps tanks in the meta) Healers: White Mage and Sage (healer balance isn't that big of an issue as far as I know) Ranged DPS: Machinist (currently the worst DPS job in the game) Casters: Black Mage and Summoner (Black Mage is doing well, but dual Caster comps aren't meta) Melee: Reaper (currently the worst melee DPS job in the game) We have still been able to clear up to P7S so far on a fairly casual schedule (just two sessions per week).

In any case you'll do much better with a class you click with than one which you read on the internet has the biggest dps when played perfectly
