Stills' guitar is also pretty expensive. Beat up but it looks like a martin 0-12 fretter which would put it in the $2-4,000 range

Id recommend Deadstream if youre looking for another good found footage movie. Just came out on Shudder (or AMC+ if you have that) and not only is it really funny, but also pretty spooky. Horror comedies are incredibly difficult to pull off, but this one manages it wonderfully.

the plot is that a cancelled prank YouTuber is trying to make a comeback by streaming himself in a haunted house. The main actor does a great job of making you hate him, but also being just likeable enough that its not so annoying that you dont want to see what happens next. Its great to see him deal with all the bullshit he encounters and his chat is hilarious with how much they push and prod him. Horror thread in CineD has really been liking it too

Yeah, I've definitely met the "poor person who owns one really expensive thing for their hobby" in real life (for example, I know a guy who still lives with his parents well into his mid-30s because he can't find a job that pays enough to move out, but also plays a really nice Gretsch hollow body from the 60s he inherited from an uncle; selling it would just make his life worse, as $2k wouldn't change his living situation, and he wouldn't have the guitar he loves to play), so I don't think it's unrealistic, but I also think it'd be funnier if Scott played a Squier Affinity

A lot of them have followed the vintage Blondie model of lady frontwoman with all-dude backing band though, it's extremely specific (Horsegirl, one of the linked bands, is all-girl and seems good, all of these bands have been put on my "try some more" list)

Rickenbackers are also on a waiting list because it's a relatively small company. You supposedly need to wait around 6 months if you order a new 4003. I've heard stories of the wait time taking years for more limited run/customized models.

People make fun of Fender for their ridiculous array of brands and models, but they have a price and an offering for everyone and I'm sure that helps a lot.

Gibson don't seem to have those business smarts and even Epiphones are pricey. Gibson also has a reputation for rotten quality control.

I'm very jealous of what kids do have access to now. You can put together some great song ideas on very cheap phone/tablet apps. There's a lot of free cool stuff out there. You don't even need a band to figure out whether the sound in your head is possible.

And as expensive as a laptop and full-fledged Ableton is, that's nothing compared to, say, a pre-CBS Fender or a vintage Les Paul.

Yeah Fender also has newer, younger musicians endorse them and have signature models through them

like Fender has a H.E.R guitar and Gibson has yet another Slash model.

Gibson supposedly is improving their QC but I'm pretty sure it's just the design of their necks that cause the headstock to break off if you even look at them wrong. I wanted a 335 style guitar so I just bought a cheaper Ibanez instead because I've never heard of an Ibanez breaking

Squiers are great guitars now, and they make weirder configurations. I have a fretless P Bass that I don't hesitate to gig with. It was like $350 and it's a great bass for the price
