Oddly as much as Superman should definitely have trunks outside his pants, I have no strong opinions about Batman.

Indeed, Batman gets by trunks free. Gray and black kinda go with everything, love those trunks though.

Yeah, trunks are necessary for Superman. I wonder if the trunks would work for Supergirl? Like, I don't hate the concept of a Supergirl costume with pants, but the one they did on the CW show is so ugly.

Conner's second suit (sans jacket) showed how good a Super outfit could look without a cape.

For Batman it depends which costume he has. If he ever went back to the lighter grey with yellow emblem then he absolutely needs underwear on the outside. If he is wearing pretty much padded armor then it matters less so. The fact that Superman is wearing spandex means he should have trunks at all times

I liked the 70s Blue costume for Batman.

The only modernized Superman costume I have ever liked was Mikel Janin's design in Superman and the Authority. No cape, short sleeves, a bit of gray, and black instead of yellow behind the red "S," but it worked really well. It had almost a retro-pulp-sci-fi-adventure feel, while also looking very modern and stylish.

New 52 Superman's initial suit was excellent but it went through the stratosphere when he put on the white shirt.

I'm reading those Gene Luen Yang issues right now and they're a lot of fun as "phase" of this young Superman's life.

The segmented armor that most heroes had were bad IMO. The Grant Morrison stories of Socialist Youthful Violent SuperBoy were kick rear end.

I sorta feel like Teen Titans or Young Justice or whatever they want to call the sidekick book has always been terrible comics about characters I want to like. "Oh, this character seemed to be interesting when standing next to a Justice League member, we're gonna put them in a comic where everyone, including them, is dumb as poo poo and constantly makes the worst decisions. Also we kill a lot of them."

The first Young Justice series was fine. PADGuy wrote them as actual teens which might have been the last time that happened.

The valid criticism thetoughestbean is referring to isn't that, it's that the characters there never show up any more. Which is mostly accurate! Superboy (Conner) and Impulse were both erased by the New 52 and didn't return until 2019 and then after a 20 issue YJ series, have been relegated to occasional guest appearances/cameos in Flash, Superman, and various Crisis events. Tim Drake has been around though

The book sucks real bad, hope this helps. Like it's just fully wild that DC okayed however many issues of this YJ story that thinks YJ is awful, actually, and that YJ fans were stupid for liking YJ.

I think it's possible to both be upset at Connor and Bart being given short shrift and not be upset that there are more women, LGBTQ+ and BIPOC super heroes.

Random, semi-related question, has John Constantine been prominent in anything since the Si Spurrier series was canceled?

I mean yes but picking a page that does both in the same speech and saying that it’s correct is going to understandably make people assume you agree with the thing your endorsing

The criticism is that the characters that people care about have been shoved aside. Half of my problem is that the criticism is presented with the subtext of the person making it just being a whiny bigot—it’s just saying that all the people who, say, don’t like that adult Jon Kent is boring and has been cannibalizing Connor’s place in the franchise are bigots who hate lgbt people (and people who like Connor certainly wouldn’t want to see him kiss Tim, no sir)

Which again has been DCs shtick since Zero Hour. Present fan complaints in the worst possible way through the mouths of the baddies. Usually with a bit of character assassinating heel turn thrown in. Myx was at least already a villain unlike Hal and Superboy Prime.

Well yeah, that too. I'd be okay with another Crisis where one of the consequences was Jon being retconned into never having been aged up (and hell, having all of his aged up plots be Conner doing them instead).
