credburn posted:I forgot this was a movie thread. I meant in real life, but it's stupid in movies, too. It's been ages, how did they undercut this in Scream? In the first movie Billy does get up, so Sidney shoots him in the head. Then in the sequels, she always adds the head shot.

I like the bit in the original Scream at the end(at least I think it was, it was one of those movies) where the dual killers get caught out at the end then start panicking because they're terrified of facing the consequences. I distinctly remember Matthew Lillard being all "Oh god, my Mom's gonna kill me..."

Aphrodite posted:That is the first one, but it's due to blood loss and starting to lose it. It's even better than that. The blood loss is their getaway plan because stabbed kids can't have done it, right? Like, they had Sid's father to blame or whatever. But Lillard's accomplice just up and stabs him real hard because that's kind of what murderers do, and the whiny freak-out ensues.

It would have been so easy to take a slash on the arm and not gut stabbed.

So maybe this has been covered before but it kinda bugs me... In Interstellar, Cooper starts out talking to Murph's teachers about his old science/astronomy books. The lady teacher specifically mentions they have "corrected" versions about how the whole space race was a hoax to fool the USSR. So with that in mind, how'd we go from "the moon landing was fake" to a loving space station in less than a century? Like, I get that that's a massive time gap, but there's no explanation of how we jumped from science, to science-fiction/propaganda & back again, then somehow ended up on this colossal space colony near Saturn.

Well, when you can show results like "Hey we can get off this hosed planet" I imagine you get some resources dedicated to you, even if it is from, like, desperate billionaires or something. Think about how quickly the US went from "Who cares about space" to "We need to get to space to beat those goddamn communists" to actually walking on the moon.

I'd imagine "we never went to space, that was all baloney" was what farm kids were taught because they needed people to focus on farming real bad. The bunker scientists were still probably teaching their kids about space travel.

Interstellar might have incredibly accurate science or whatever but not one of the protagonists would last six hours in the Prometheus universe They're a bunch of dummies

To be fair, not many of the Alien franchise protagonists survive 6 hours in that universe either.

I kind of wish Alien were less iconic so people would re-adapt the screenplay. All the characters were deliberately only ever referred to by their last names so that they could be cast as any race or gender, like we're casting a high school production of Twelve Angry Men. I want to see what the gym teacher can do with that script.

My wife and I watched Blade for the first time last night and when The Scene happened she immediately said "why would the ambulance be leaving the hospital?" I've never laughed so hard in my life. I agree though because it is very weird that the sirens are on and there is a patient in the back.

Also the little girl in the franchise and the first alien also had full names. IIRC respectively they were "Olivia Newt" and "John"

Something from Terror Trips: why bother trying to warn people away from your organ harvesting town when your livelihood depends on killing people who come to visit? Also the premise of them visiting famous horror movie locations and one of them turning out ot be real but it's just normal organ harvesters felt like a letdown. Even though I know ghosts and demons and poo poo aren't real, I think going that route would have improved the movie. Preferably in found footage format.

unrelated followup: stop making movies so drat dark. Not in terms of content, but in terms of lighting. It's almost as annoying as the eternal volume problem where background noises are ear-bleedingly loud but dialogue is at whisper volume. I get you're trying to set an ambiance but I can't see poo poo.

Now days it'd make sense to find a server with uploaded updates cloud synced, but all the older stuff makes me annoyed that someone(s) went to the same place and it turned out fine for them to go and no spookies got them. It's probably responsible for the rising ARGs movement that's more interesting. Hopefully any 'found' media takes the time to give a good reason for the finding.

I think that is generally part of the point, the idea that areas can be considered safe to go to but at certain times or conditions, they are the setting for horror movies. I was going to say that this is in fact the core conceit of a lot of horror movies except I guess no a lot of the famous franchises everyone on elm street is constantly terrorized by freddy and everyone who goes near crystal lake gets murdered by jason.

But the ones with like the Blair Witch and you're not to go in the woods or that one in the Paris Catacombs push this idea that it's a danger. Maybe I just should not question it, but again my problem is with the finding the camera or whatever which gets negated at the point someone has cloud storage and the video(s) could be found at the point of someone being missing. I just don't do well with not questioning some things. Others I don't mind like them getting the videos from Rec or Quarantine after going in the building later.

Even if they have cloud backup on the cameras or phones, that doesn't mean they have a signal to actually use it. Especially if it's in one of those weird space/time kinda found footage ones.
