This is currently airing? It’s called Scooby Doo and Guess Who? the episode I watched a few nights ago had Reverend Run from RUN DMC, and it was a lot of fun!

See having it up anywhere would require paying the creators residuals. Why do that when you can just destroy it and get some tax benefits now? Sure you're no longer making any long term money but that's somebody else's problem.

Get physical media if you can, Amazon is taking away shows from streaming services even if you bought them if they've lost the rights to host them.

Now is a good time to learn how to burn DVD's.

I'm luling & lmao about the possibility of losing access to squid seasons i worked on because they stopped releasing dvd's so i bought them thru google play which is now youtubeTV.

never got any residuals anyway so no skin off my rear end; but im going to end up likely pirating my own work which i've also purchased as means of personal archival shite.

(regretfully i was only on season 5 onward where the series lost that spaceghost/athf flavoured plot 'coherence' that drew me towards the show)

I'm really worried about Uzamaki now. That turd Zaslav might see that as a big tax cut opportunity. I guess it depends on how much power they have to actually cancel it, or if he can be told to gently caress off.

I feel like since it's technically a co-production with Production I.G. it's safe. If it were AS solo then I feel like it'd be long dead by now.

So I just saw family guy.

the episode reloved around peter being hypnotized to go down on louis when her heard the intro to "extra extra"

this leds to petter going down on his mother in law and the show ends with louis stopping him from going down on meg

In other threads I ve said it feels like with that dragon show and rick and morty the issue of incest keeps getting brought up. I m starting to get a weird vibe now.

I think executives go hey let's try edgy humor again! And that never works because the edge has been pushed so far edgy is just hosed up. You used to be able to just say piss drat rear end fart and be considered edgy. Now you have to try and make a joke about pedophiles Hitler or incest. Don't go there. Just stick with Dark or Crude humor that would have been edgy in 2004.

South Park and Family Guy did so much to push that.

i think now with edge, there has to be something behind it, either actual satire or cleverness or some actual character stuff. i can't just be "lol slur gently caress cum" or whatever now. like i like edgy humor and shows but all of them have something more.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Does Family Guy still have the old next door neighbor who is a pedophile? I had a friend tell me a long time ago that only Seth Mcfarlane is skilled enough that we will laugh at an obvious pedophile. I'll admit it was a little funny at first but very quickly wore out its welcome.

I also hated the episode where they "redeemed" him by having him fight someone he has the moral high ground on, a pedohpile that is also a nazi.

Also when it comes to making a pedophile funny or humanized no one will beat the Venture Brothers. Sgt. Hatred is still one of my favorite characters and I'm so glad he got the help he so desperately wanted.

SlothfulCobra

As I have gotten older and more capable of understanding more of the references Family Guy makes, the less I like it. It really relies a lot on shock value and edginess in a way that appeals much more to a dumb kid who doesn't really understand why most bad things are bad. There's stuff like pedophiles and rape, and there's also a lot of sexism and racism. And the racism gets really weirdly specific, supposing a lot of stereotypes that you've probably never heard of before, and weirdly dated, bringing up stereotypes from bygone generations. Seth McFarlane's a big fan of the "classics" I guess. I can't really say if there's like a line he's crossed with everything, or how far over the line he might've gone, but he plays around the line too much to ever be comfortable with. And I know McFarlane personally probably doesn't write most of the show anymore, but this applies to revisiting the old stuff as well as checking out the new stuff. Whoever he delegated responsibility for the show to, they keep the old spirit of the show alive, and that's not a good thing.

And aside from the gags and transgressions, the characters just aren't any good. These family sitcoms usually rely on falling back on an emotional core, and there just isn't one with Family Guy. Most of the time, all the characters hate eachother. The writers spent all their credibility for the family having an emotional core when they gave up on Meg so they could just hammer down on beating her up, and the individual characters are too shallow to carry much plot.

American Dad however, actually pretty good.

Vandar posted:

Quagmire is also still in the show

I think last I saw they shifted his character from all the rape and perversion to being a very lonely middle-aged man living alone with his cats, which is less offensive, but still not any good.

The entire show got flanderised, everyone hates each other and themselves but not in a fun or interesting way. It relies on going ballistically fast from start to finish to make it basically okay to leave on in the background at the end of the evening. Its time is long over though, no-one is really talking about it anymore or references anything outside of its heyday. It's as much a shambling corpse as The Simpsons is, just one of those fast zombies from 28 Days Later.

One of the video essay/"media analysis for fun" channels I follow pointed out that Family Guy is probably only surviving right now because it's accidentally always been perfect for the current social media trend of short, fast, video content. All the cutaways fit nicely into TikTok and youtube short formats, and in recent seasons it's gone even harder in that direction because it's the only thing generating anything close to engagement for it seemingly. Not that it's a good thing, just kinda interesting how it's shallow joke structure has found a accidental niche.

It'll be interesting to see what finally kills off Family Guy and/or The Simpsons. Eventually they need to find new voice actors for the rest of the casts. Marge's voice actor is basically finished. I'm surprised they kept her at all. Same with the rest of the cast on both shows. There's gotta be something else they want to do, even aside from the ones who do it for the paycheck. People are also going to age out or pass on. If they decide it really doesn't matter and replace the cast as needed I dunno what would kill it finally.

Has Not Actually Done Cocaine
It's really weird cause Family Guy in it's original 3 season run was basically just a Hanna-Barbera sitcom that was allowed to curse and dabble with sexual humor and slightly more visceral violence(which makes sense considering that until Family Guy got picked up by Fox, Seth had worked at HB and it's successor Cartoon Network Studios his whole career), then after it got revived from it's cancellation it definitely started getting edgier and meaner but you could still see a lot of connective tissue with the original run for a while and then all of a sudden it just dives into the deep end of edginess and nihilism, my personal guess is that it had to do with Seth getting less and less involved with the show outside of voice acting over time, first because of American Dad(which in it's first season also had a lot of that "Hanna-Barbera but for Adults" vibe early Family Guy had) and then later due to various other projects of his and the people now more or less in charge over at Family Guy just don't understand what made the show work in either its original run or the first couple of revival seasons

Honestly next time negotiations come up for extending Family Guy, Seth should do the right thing and just refuse to sign on, they can't really do the show without him as he voices like half of the main cast, and he's clearly sick of doing it
