Of all the books I was forced to read in high school, Frankenstein is one of maybe three or so that I thought were genuinely good. Sci fi is the best genre, even among classics from 200 years ago, and it fit right in with all the PKD, Heinlein, etc. I was reading recreationally. I haven't read it since, but given that it held up for 185 years before I got to it the first time, I'm sure it's still good after 204 years. I haven't read Dracula but I've heard it's quite bad in comparison. Also, in the book he's referred to as "The Creature" not "Frankenstein's monster". So that's the biggest "well actually" you can pull out to counter the "well actually it's 'Frankenstein's monster' not 'Frankenstein'".

There’s also a newly released video game about Frankenstein’s monster if one wants to skip the boring poo poo (reading books) and go to the fun stuff (video games)

Amphigory posted:I wrote my fifth year English essay in Dracula and it loving rocks I'm honestly surprised the Bowie Knife didn't catch on in future Dracula lore. I suppose that "Dracula Unleashed" game for the Sega CD did hold to that tradition, what with it being oddly committed to being an "official" sequel. I mostly remember the Restpurae of it, which involved a bunch of drunk carriage drivers.
