There's also a pretty common trope where someone shoots at a character and apparently misses but when they take a drink it pours out the bullet holes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyxkODGdp1E Snowglobe of Doom fucked around with this message at 18:58 on Oct 17, 2022 |

Someone hides the fact they're hard of hearing by demanding someone else looks them in the eyes while talking to them so they can read their lips. Whatever it is feels like it's right at the edge of my brain so it's probably going to seem obvious in retrospect but I just can't reach it.

Was there something like that in L.A Confidential (Kevin Spacey's character)??

I believe this movie came out within the last 5-10 years, but I could be wrong about that. It's Equalizer-esque, in that the protagonist is some kind of ex-military (Marine, maybe?) trying to live a normal life. Film starts with the protagonist working a construction (or demolition) job, wherein his coworkers think he's an idiot. Several of his coworkers dupe another one into joining them for a robbery - duped coworker drops his wallet and one of the victims sees his ID. Protagonist winds up warning the robbery victims to leave the ID'd guy alone and returns the cash (I think) - also killing/maiming the lovely coworkers and warning the nice guy coworker to leave town.

I just remembered a film or show which I saw at a tender age, so about 99 to 04. Two sisters in their teens are out on a holiday somewhere, the older one is keen to lose her virginity and drags some creep to their room, and the little sister looks on in horror from her bed across the room. That's all I remember. I realise this sounds like every French film ever, but I've no idea where or when it was from. Couldn't be bothered to wade through all the porn in the search results when I tried to google

There's a bit of music near the end of Bob Fosse's Star 80 when Eric Roberts is working himself up to rape, murder, necrophilia, and suicide that sounds a lot like something pulled out of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells (aka the track the Exorcist theme originates from). You can hear a bit of it at 1:18 in the film’s trailer. I can’t quite work out if it’s also another Oldfield piece, or maybe even a different arrangement of Tubular Bells, or a soundalike (you don't hear one in the trailer, but those distinctive clangs are there as well). Can anyone help?

Honestly it just sounds like someone noodling around on a Synclavier, with a Fender Rhodes for backup, but I can see a similarity. e: There’s some original soundtrack work by a jazz guy called Ralph Burns listed on Imdb. Torquemada fucked around with this message at 13:37 on Oct 20, 2022 |

This is a movie my dad rented when I was a kid (so sometime in the 90s.) There's a man with a surly teenage daughter, and he takes her on vacation(?) to a tropical or beach locale. At one point the teenager, who hates or at least is mad at her dad for whatever reason, starts telling people that he's her older (and, I think, abusive) boyfriend. The dad has no idea. At one point there's a funny scene where he plays piano (maybe at a restaurant?) in front of some of these people and the song he plays is "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" and everyone is grossed out. Near the end of the movie something happens to either put the teenager or her father in peril, and she freaks out and starts crying for her daddy, exposing her lie.

It’s definitely that, with Gerard Depardieu. That Thank Heaven For Little Girls scene is very funny; I still remember it from when I first saw it. I’m not 100% sure that film would get made today…

It’s a remake of a French film also starring Gerard Depardieu, which is probably even more uncomfortable than the American one. Was that near the end of his attempt to become a marquee name in the US?
