For what it's worth, next week's Signalis might be the most Silent Hill 2 game I've played in years, at least in terms of sheer surreality. My piece on it went up on Bloody Disgusting yesterday and I'll have a review for it on there next week.

It looks nice, but you're right, I'm worried about them cranking everything up too much to the point where it loses it's impact. I'm already imagining them adding way more Pyramid Head than what's necessary.

More specific clarification: The first third of the game or so is set on an ice planet called "Leng" and it is exactly as bad there as you might think. There's enough going on with Signalis that it'd be worth starting a spoilers-off thread specifically for it.

Silent Hill 4 is half of a good game; I'm not against escorts but I think the second half takes a nosedive. I like a lot of the areas and The Room itself, though. I have no faith that SH2 remake will be good since it's team bloob but I'll reserve judgement for the rest til we have more info than some CG trailers. F could be interesting just because of the author.

silent hill 4 has the biggest nosedive in quality out of any game i've ever played. i LOVED the first half but the second you start escorting eileen the game turns to absolute poo poo

I'm kind of optimistic about Townfall and F (aka Silent Hill Hinamizawa). I've always maintained that a movie based on 2 has the potential to be quite good but it definitely depends on the execution. I agree with Bobvids, it's a shame the movies already blew their load with Pyramid Head.

I just happened to start playing 4 for the first time a couple days ago. I'm a couple hours in and the combat is horrible, but I'm interested in what's going on. I also loaded up a bunch of other PS2 horror games. While clunky, I think PS2 had the some of the most creative swings at horror. I know ps1 graphics are "in" right now, but that was a meh era of horror.
