With Daria, though, I think the music really did add a lot of flavor and identity to the attitude of the show. I think I've told this before, but somehow I think over the course of time I saw three music edits of an episode and the differences in how the ending of the episode played out with each different audio mix felt way different. When another MTV show of around that time was airing, the live-action "Dead @ 21", I seem to remember an interview someone from that production did saying that the use of then-current music in the show was always expected to be changed. Essentially, they'd envisioned the show being frequently rerun on MTV for so long that on those future reairings the audio mix would replace 'older' songs with more modern hits.

It's not the darkest joke, but it's kind of incredible to think of the fact that one of the core jokes of the Simpsons has always been that Homer beats his kids. I mean, I get its roots: the Simpsons was created as a response to the Leave It To Beaver era of family sitcoms and so, instead of gentle fatherly wisdom or harmless buffoonery, Homer grabs Bart by the neck and cartoonishly throttles him when he disrespects him. It's over the top cartoon violence like Itchy and Scratchy, and I'm not moralizing against it, but it is wild to think that it's a bedrock element of the Simpsons. The Behind the Laughter line, "And that horrible act of child abuse became one of our most beloved running gags," might then be the darkest joke for acknowledging it as a character element for Homer.

So I don't know if they just put the actual videos in there (which would be weird of them to do), or if it's the segments from the show. If it it's the stuff they cut, people could at least edit it back together, if they really wanted to put that kind of time into that sort of thing.

It’s not the whole series. I’m hoping they get more. They also still have the Mike Judge Collection which is what’s been floating around on dvd for years, a sort of best of compilation without the music videos. There’s also maybe a two or three episodes from the 2010 reboot. It sucks that there isn’t one place to watch the entirety of the show. Seems like half the show is lost media.

I may be wrong but I think Malcolm in the Middle DVD releases were delayed or canceled as there were so many musical clearances that had to be obtained. There were serious rights issues to re-releasing the 60s Batman show on home media as it was not a WB production & they are a tad bit protective of the character as there were concerns that it would allow another company to start selling t-shirts & toys. Adam West was so fed up with delays that on his own he recorded commentary just to get it done either before he died or became too frail. The only specific Simpsons censorship I clearly remember from catching it on UK TV (BBC I think) was a showing of Simpson Tide, where grampa's line "my Homer is not a communist. He may be a liar, a pig, an idiot, a communist, but he is NOT a porn star!" just ends after the second "a communist" and his repeating himself is supposed to be the joke

Man, I remember back in the 2000s when Quantum Leap was released on DVD for the first time. I went to Best Buy and bought what was in stock (the first three seasons) and went home to relive my favorite sci-fi show. Immediately, I noticed something really off about it: all the licensed music was replaced by generic schmaltzy stock music. Talk about a huge loving letdown and the loss of emotional impact on certain scenes, replaced by “Lawrence Welk sound-alike waltz #3”  I don’t think I ever watched it more than one time. I recently redid and culled my physical movie collection and the first thing to get thrifted were those lovely DVDs, because the complete series was eventually released on Blu-ray with all the OG music intact and it loving owns. So I have faith about music-heavy shows eventually showing up uncut in one form or another because it eventually happened with Quantum Leap, and it could eventually happen with Daria and/or Beavis & Butthead.

Speaking of Daria, I had to do a double check on the Lower Decks episode with the Vulcan ship because I thought the out of control Vulcan had the same voice actress. It wasn't, but it felt so much like the same actress with a different tone in their voice I had to be sure.

So I remember arguing with friends at school about boba fet showing up in the first movie. And then years later finding out he really wasn't there originally, and I just had the newer version. When I was little my grandpa had the (for us) rare combo of a VHS recorder & an HBO trial. When they had the world premiere of the TMNT movie I requested it be recorded & not only did I get every minute of film but Grandpa recorded the half hour making of documentary that preceded the movie. That vhs was a treasure for a long time.

The new one was a full-length parody of "It" billed as "Treehouse of Horror Presents". It goes about the same as the movies. They shift some things around with the adults. Adult Homer owns the bar, Moe is for some reason a rock and roll ventriloquist, Marge and Comic Book Guy get married and have Bart and Lisa but their hair and personalities are swapped. Krusty is It. I dunno, watch it if you like those Family Guy movie parodies.

When giving up on the show I’d still try to watch the treehouse of horrors & had to check when I realized those were now also trash. Looks like the last one I remembered was from S18, it had a golem plot that was just low stakes nothing. Although I did watch the “Sideshow Bob kills Bart” treehouse segment years later, it was unintentionally creepy as it made it seem like Bob’s goal was to play with dead Bart’s body.

Which is unfortunate because it's the best joke in the ep. Also the one where Homer becomes a boxer, Barney says 'boxing causes brain damage' before drinking a tin of varnish. Channel 4 cut out the varnish. which I actually think made the joke better
