Does anyone else get issues with Constructoids sitting around and not doing construction tasks sometimes? I am unsure what to do about it, sometimes it happens for a day or so and then fixes itself but now my current one has been doing nothing for almost a week and it's frustrating the hell out of me.

I'm afraid so.
Is there some trick to using a toy box? I built one and a Baby Decoration as well but the parents don't seem to use them when playing with the baby, and they only play her when manually directed.

Normally diagnosing work issues involves right clicking the job site with a pawn and seeing what the context menu says, but obviously you can't do that with a Constructoid. Do you have all the necessary materials delivered/in stock? Are you running any mods that fiddle with work priorities, like Quality Builder? What if you enable construction on a pawn long enough to right click the work site to see what it says?

do you have people with childcare priority set? if you're using numeric priorities, do you have it set high enough (I keep it set to 1 for everyone)
toy boxes and baby decorations seem to be just silent buffs for the room (or maybe a radius if not in a room) when people play with the baby, you can monitor the baby's play need in the Needs tab or if you have RimHud you will see it shown in the baby's main info card.

Serious answer; mods you will need desperately.

Allow Tool. Lets you say "select all other objects like this one". Lets you say "Cut all selected plants that are fully ripe." Lets you say "Grab this thing right there and haul it RIGHT NOW." Do not launch game without it.

P-Music. Heard Rimworld's music once too often? Add P-Music, which fits seamlessly into the vibe.

Map Preview. At the colony-selection screen, see a minimap of what that hex actually looks like.

Pick Up And Haul + While You're Up. If a pawn is on an errand and has room in its inventory for some more stuff, the pawn grabs the to-be-hauled stuff it passes. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1279012058&searchtext=pick+up+and+haul https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2034960453

Wall Light. Sometimes you don't want to give up one tile to a standing floor lamp. Just stick a Wall Light above your stove and go on your merry way.

Easy Speedup. Now you can run at speeds 1, 2, 3, and :sparkles: 4 :sparkles:

Replace Stuff. Sick of tearing down a wall, then waiting for it to be torn down, then building it again in granite? Use Replace Stuff. Rips down one tile at a time and immediately replaces it.

I'm able to do construction work with my other pawns just fine, and right clicking shows nothing different. I do have quality builder installed but I disabled it for my Mechanoid save because I figured it would interfere.

It is. All of my other bots are working just fine, it's only constructoids that are having problems.

At this point I'm gonna chalk it up to a weird mod conflict because I've not been able to find anyone else who has had this issue

Construction bots can't mine, so if the building overlaps with rock most of your pawns would be able to build it (the first step being mining the rock), but your construction bot will just ignore it.

I guess it's unlikely that that would be the case but I figured I'd mention it as that's the only time I've seen where a normal pawn can construct something and the builder bot doesn't. Maybe it's something similar where there's a preliminary job the construction bot can't do. If there's nothing obvious it's probably a weird mod conflict I'd guess.

If you disabled it mid-save, it's possible there's lingering issues depending on how Quality Builder is implemented. I've been watching the comments for Complex Jobs and they say that you need to delete/recreate a mech to fix work assignments after changes to the work types.

One nice thing about mechs is their response time, you can set them to sit dormant anywhere you like and reactivate them in response to raids, they make a very good screening force to give you time to get your other forces into position.

So much has been added by the DLCs since I last played. Apparently your leader can accuse people and put them on trial, so I just put the tree-hugger on trial and let the colony decide whether to kick him out. At 70% odds unsurprisingly people told him to kick rocks.

Now at 5/6 of the starting people I set up. Reunion working a lot faster than I had expected.

does anyone know offhand if furniture usually weighs less or more than the raw material it's made out of? Art is for sure. Armor is significantly less weight, I remember a run where my crippled wizened old hideous smith packed up a whole uranium asteroid into insanely good plate mail & saved the caravan from getting brutally rear end kicked even though everybody hated him. And nobody even got cancer!

e: looking at a few things on the wiki it seems like yeah, it's a better idea to just ship all your poo poo than take raw materials. The only thing I care about is how much can fit into the drop pods, and once we have all devilstrand everything & as much researched as possible, I'm gonna try to relay bases to the south pole. This time things are going pretty ok.

I had an offer to save a lost pawn who was downed, and drop podded into the map, where I was able to set up an ambush while the doctor with the breach axe went around the other way and tunneled into the prison. Worked great, figured we could walk the 5 days back home no problem. It was too hot, we had to hunker down for a few days and build a lovely barracks with 6 passive coolers while the main base podded across the fuel we needed to escape. A decent enough proof of concept, though. Even in summer it's possible to just dig in quick by chopping down all the trees you can. I have another quest to do the same thing but with fewer enemies, so I'm gonna send the same squad, but instead of loading in any supplies or pack animals we're just going to take out the guards and power systems asap and then live in their lovely base until we can pod everything home.

Meanwhile I'm going to try and dump off as much excess garbage onto any faction base in range until they become allied. I have a lot of wood and marble, so it will probably be sculptures.

Holy moley the mechanitor boss mechs can show up in mech cluster quests. This thing had 20 mechs including an Apocriton (psychic droner that resurrects other mechs), an auto-mortar, and a load of turrets all defended by two overlapping shields. If I didn’t have a tier 5 psi caster with Invisibility cast I dunno what I’d have done.

Love the expansion and 1.4 patch. My only gripes so far is with the mech groups, why are there only 2? I'd want like at least 10 for my workers alone lol. Now I have one group for my militors on dormant when there is no danger and one group for workers. But I don't want my contructoid and farming bot on hold running around aimlessly when I only need my lifter to pick up stuff. I know it's only -3% for bots that don't have any active tasks but I'd rather have them on dormant for that small but kind of relevant 1% charge.
I also had a few weird bugs regarding pawn aggro. I wanted to nurse a scaria terrier back to health hoping I'd get a free Nuzzling Agent in my lonely mechanitor lab fortress but while feeding it with raider flesh my pawn randomly decided to punch its tail and kill it. I had a similar thing with a raider I tended to with the plan to capture and release for relation points, my mech man patched them up and then suddenly brained them with the autopistol. Another weird thing happened on a caravan encounter with a neutral faction, when I sent out a mule pawn to deal with the pollution, the game didn't even give me the option to decide what to do, it just dropped me into a battle field with the opposing faction's caravan that of course severely outclassed my naked mule pawn, telling me that I "attacked" the caravan and the relation dropped from -12 or so to -88. Is that a thing that can happen now or what am I doing wrong? I've never had these issues in 1.3 and earlier.

You can get an extra group by crafting a special backpack, don't remember if there are other ways. Possibly with an implant upgrade?

Your aggro thing is weird and I have no explanation for it besides mod conflicts, unless you have an aggressive gene that does it or something.

Sadly I had no genetic tinkering infrastructure because all my steel and power was going into mechanoids. Probably going to restart and skip the mechanitor stuff entirely to focus on genetics, the opportunity cost is too steep for a hybrid run.

seriously take a close look at wasters if you're going with any of the prebuilt races, the only really bad/suboptimal things about them is the racial ugliness and the wake-up addiction immunity isn't very good (you still get heart attacks, I don't think it's worth it)

Ah thanks makes sense there would be a way to upgrade it some time later, I'm still on tier 1 mechanitor tech.

I'm a filthy vanilla player so that can't be it. Well, I have the character editor 1.4 with harmony (since Prepare Carefully is still on 1.3). I doubt that's the issue but who knows. However I made my pawn a special redskinned dude with a tail and some neg and pos traits, maybe I have to look into that, I don't think there was any violent gene part though. The caravan thing was with a baseliner pawn.

This can happen normally with genetics irl too. Two redheads can have a kid that does not have red hair, etc. because those traits are only from one half of each parent's genes and they got the other half of that particular chromosome from both. The same is true for breeding plants and animals for specific traits. Genetics are very complicated.

But yeah absolutely mod that poo poo because it's more fun lol
