It still feels kinda off for me. For one I feel like using those spikes to launch yourself with Zip should just be one motion. You should lock onto it and start trying to launch yourself like you're doing a full rotation on a swing and Soar is like 8 flips to climb a rock as tall as a U-Haul. It'll probably look better 14 hours in when you can also use your hands and can increase your momentum like that.

It's looks like they're trying to do Spider-Man style movement for a game where you're uh mostly on the floor and maybe some big rocks? Dunno if they really need to make basic movement that complicated.

I finished Disco Elysium last night, what an incredible game. Truly one of the All-Timers. The writing and voice-direction are incredible. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to start it again.

Steal every moderately interesting movement system that exist. The Neon from Infamous Second Son, hangliders, grappling hook physics from Starbound before they made them use energy and only sporadically useful, everything possible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zsI7aXfhtQ

Some of the Squareenix games (FFXV, XVI, and Forspoken mostly) have the feeling of those unreal engine user maps that pop up YouTube where they plugged a bunch of premade assets in. The rendering tech looks incredible but also everything feels kind of generic and cheap? Can’t really put my finger on why. The new Sonic game has the same feel.

The rendering tech looks incredible but also everything feels kind of generic and cheap? Crystal Tools and Luminous Engine were developed during the dark years of gen 7 and it's taken them a long time to adapt them to contemporary HD assets. True it makes their games look super unique but there are some definite weaknesses. FF16 is speculated to be running a heavily modified Crystal Tools that's been spec'd to abandon last gen, whereas FF15 and Forspoken are running on Luminous, flawed as it is, but Forspoken seems to be leaning toward the strengths of the thing rather than FF15's sort of uneven mishmash of styles/assets. I dunno, mostly going off of what I've heard in interviews.

Heavenly Bodies is a really good coop game. LVG and I were playing it right before Elden Ring and we had a lot of silly laughing at my freaking out about the idea of floating away in space (It is not a phobia like slugs, but it still freaks me out and I think it would anyone except for her!)

Do you get incapacitated for like a day when you step on a snail by accident?

Crystal Tools is very dead except for Dragon Quest X, there's no way they went back to that. It's probably just forked off the XIV fork of Luminous (which was pretty early on so there's not THAT much between them), as that makes the most sense for where the dev team comes from.

Stayed up way too late playing Signalis, it's pretty cool. It looks like a fixed camera PS1 survival horror game, with a few sops to game evolution since then (tank controls are optional, perspective-correct texture mapping). Not so sure I like how enemies keep coming back to life while I have a limited ammo supply though. It did a brief first-person sequence which didn't feel very good and had no way to invert the camera so I hope those are rare and non-combat. Right now I have to find a Protektor Key Card but I seem to have run out of unexplored map areas, I'll definitely give it another session before declaring I'm stuck though

it sounds like the EU/Japan are kind of the opposite of the US censorship wise. You can have nudity but no violence while the US is violence but no nudity.

Crows Turn Off posted:Since when does the US not allow nudity? Even in TLOU2 there is nudity. Its rated mature and its not considered hardcore pornographic by the rater in a way that would make it adult only. whereas in some other countries a game will get banned or given an adult only rating if the violence is too much.
