veni veni veni posted:

I definitely agree HFW got some of the big stuff right, but lots of little issues felt like death by 1000 paper cuts sometimes.

I didn't play it at launch, but it sounds like a lot of things have been addressed. Still, all of those things are the exact problems I've had with it this month.

And mounts are generally bad.

Oh, and I really wish it had gyro aiming.

I haven't played Inscryption yet but I have been playing Marvel Snap and it's good fun. I'm a newbie to CCGs though.

Marvel Snap is too much fun. It's really grabbed me in a dangerous way. I almost spent like twenty dollars to get a sick Ant-Man variant last night and I don't even use that card any more. Thankfully I came to my senses.

I’ve pulled off some absolutely ridiculous veeg-esque Magoo wins where an effect I forgot about on a card I played affected another area and I can’t tell if I’m playing against real people or still in baby AI mode

Honestly? Probably the latter. I'm level 32 right now and the game apparently starts matching you with real players more often at like 25-ish.

Currently playing a deck largely based around "destroy" effects with Wolverine, Nova, Carnage, and Deathlok, though I've been doing kind of poorly lately so I might change it up. The real reason I've had any luck at all is because I'm using Gamora, Jessica Jones, and Devil Dinosaur, all of which are just incredible cards.

Yeah I'm in low 20s so far and it wouldn't surprise me if I haven't faced a single real human opponent yet. I feel like the challenge is going to spike up hard whenever that starts happening.

this was annoying in the first game but in forbidden west you can hold down on the d-pad to customize what items are visible on the quick use bar

Yeah, and I’ve gone through three or four iterations of arrangements to try making it a smoother ride, but it just doesn’t stop being a pain in the rear end no matter how you slice it. I wish it was its own wheel. Especially when it ballooned to around 30 possible items.

And another thing: Why bother with snatching the survey drones for GAIA’s planetarium ceiling if the view is just going to shut off every time you talk to GAIA anyway (e.g. every time you have a need to be in that room wherein a nice ambiance would be preferable)? I’m 70 hours in and the longer I go the more these things just endlessly grind on me.

Edit: The only thing keeping me sane right now is the infinite jump glitch.

Edit 2: And it does have gyro aiming, but its implementation is kind of wonky. Days Gone somehow got it 100% right as soon as you turned it on, but when I turned it on in HFW it was all bonkers, and I could never get it to perform intuitively without twisting the controller in a really bizarre way to go left or right.

I loved HZD and really thought they nailed just about everything. The combat was great, but the cutscenes and NPC interactions were stale. This time around they flipped it: the cutscenes and mo-cap NPC stuff is out of this world, but the combat got hosed up. Machine slew problems aside, you’ve got access to about a dozen melee combos and they’re all just combinations of R1 and ‘pause for a second before you press R1 a few more times’. Some of the pit challenges are impossible to parse until you pull it off by accident and then never ever get a chance to try it out again in the real world because A.) fights are usually too chaotic, and B.) other weapons are ALWAYS preferable to the spear anyway, so why waste your time and die in the process?

Sorry, I know there are plenty of newer games and topics to discuss but I had to rant about this loving game. It’s simultaneously so good and yet so loving annoying.

I watched a couple of videos on the arg of inscryption and his other games and it all was a lot of very silly fun although I think the central villain being the literal Satan who owns a video game company, who before owning th company was torturing souls by making them play his awful games is very dumb but fit for such an arg

Overall I think it's good they banned The Meathook Massacre from standard but mono black is still insanely powerful without it and everyone seems to love the esper control/midrange these decks these days anyway so I dont think it's actually had much of an effect on the meta

How do I actually access Echoes of the Eye in Outer Wilds? I bought the dlc, it downloaded and installed, but it's just not working? The main menu when I boot the game is just the base game menu (no echoes of the eye logo or anything) and if I go to the place you're supposed to go to to start it there's nothing there.

Edit: Got it to work, I had to delete the dlc and redownload it.

I haven't heard anything about this game at all but it looks kinda neat. Another possible solid entry in the "third-person psychological horror action adventure with a female protagonist where the otherworldly enemies are a metaphor for past trauma" genre.

Oh, and I really wish it had gyro aiming.

Horizon Forbidden West absolutely does have gyro aiming, and I thought it was absolutely transformative and elevated the game from an 8 to a 9 all by itself. The combat was the most fun I've had since playing RE4 with the Wiimote aiming, and I was loving crushed to find out their particular implementation of gyro aim wasn't standard for basically every game. I could never get used to the always-on gyro in Splatoon, but HFW just kicks it on when you aim down the sights which makes it perfect for dialing in your shot, and seems like the obvious implementation for any sort of shooter.

More God of War chat: this game is hot garbage. Fighting the first valkyrie right now, and nope, this combat system is janky poo poo. I will beat this valkyrie when it decides to let me, and not one moment before. Sometimes it doesn't acknowledge that I've dodged so it can hit me anyway, sometimes it interrupts a combo with an unavoidable attack even though it should be stunned, sometimes it likes to hit me with the red stab when I'm well out of range. Just miserable to play. I have no idea how they put so much effort into every other part of the game and didn't bother to make their combat system work properly.

E: just got her to 1%, she hit me with the wing spin even though I clearly dodged, then comboed me into the red stab to kill me even though I clearly dodged that, too. Hot loving trash.

E2: k, finally killed it. No sense of accomplishment whatsoever, just got lucky it decided not to ignore my dodges and blocks this time. What a poo poo game goddamn.

Don't bother with the optional skill check stuff imo. If you feel compelled to beat everything you're gonna have a bad time. The combat system is fun enough for the critical path of a narrative driven AAA game, but the Valkyries are tuned for like a DMC level of precision gameplay that just isn't there.

Sigurd has about 3x as much health as she should have, it gets tiresome long before the fight is over

Like, even if you can hit the counter 99 times out of 100 you will actually have to do it more than 100 times over the course of the fight so you will eventually get hit
