It's not that small and not going all that fast, seems like an autocannon with modern targeting should be able to take out quite a few semisubmersed suicide boats

aphid_licker posted:What makes it hard? Can't you stabilize away the movement of the boat with the gun and then it seems like a much easier target than for example a helicopter? You've got two objects some distance away from each other moving in unpredictable ways. Even if the gun is stabilized, there's no way to account for the movement of the target.

"Jamming" communications is very difficult, as they are low bandwidth, low power, and any modern system can frequency hop to unjammed frequencies. Trying to jam a wide span of frequencies at once quickly gets you into the Megawatt range of power requirements, which is difficult, and even if you have the equipment to do it is like lighting the beacons of gondor about your location and intensions, as well as bending over for any anti-radiation guided missiles in the area. Overall easier to just shoot the drone.

It wouldn't surprise me if these suicide drone boats done eventually get an anti radiation guidance system if they don't already.

Kesper North posted:i'm now going to refer to boat launches as "boat cannon" One might think that this would be a torpedo tube. One would be wrong, for what is launched is a full boat. I approve of the boat cannon. I'm not surprised Russia is cutting off grain after this attack, it's a natural escalation of the war in the naval sphere. It's the same as them targeting Ukraine's electrical and water supplies. Except of course it directly affects a lot of countries outside Ukraine. So now that people are dying trying to ship this grain, the rest of the world has to think how they escalate their response. This gets ugly both ways, either the world lets it slide and people starve, or tries to find a way to enforce protection of shipments, which means physically protecting Ukraine's shipping. Theres a lot of videos of helicopters dodging cars along roads, they probably should have been lower. If you want to use the road you have to be below the tree tops to gain protection.
