It never stops.

I don't like the character design at all, but I really enjoy Art as a character basically dedicated to doing non-stop bits just for his own amusement and I've got nothing but love and respect for genuine tasteless garbage being a hit. Ten stars.

I liked the effects too! But to your point about the scripts wtf was happening with the little girl in part 2? It was just stupid.

Honestly I’m very open to lots of transgressive horror but I just couldn’t shake the feeling that the director (who’s also the writer) has serious issues with women. I usually don’t get too deep in to psychoanalysis with horror films, and I like lots of movies where women have a rough go (we were just talking about Drag Me to Hell!) but it just didn’t sit right with me.

I don’t understand a theatre full of grown men howling in laughter at a woman being sawn in half from her vagina to her head… maybe if it were played like an HG Lewis film, but the tone is just way off, and it reads as hateful. I also couldn’t help but notice that while men are killed and stabbed a bit in these films, the violence is never as protracted, intense and frankly as pornographic as that perpetrated against the women. The violence against men is also not played for laughs in the same way.

I will say that I don’t think liking these movies makes someone a misogynist or a bad person, like I said I know lots of people that think Art the Clown is the new Freddy Krueger, I just think that there’s nothing to the character and he sucks.

I agree with a lot of what you said, and yet I still kinda loved Terrifier 2.

But keep in mind I didn't really enjoy the first one much at all, like, it was fine on a rewatch but the original Terrifier is just dull and feels really mean-spirited and edgy.

All it needs is Drunken Master, Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, and The Young Master. Shaolin Wooden Men can come too. I've seen all the Lo Wei movies and if the box is just those it's skippable.

Yeah there’s only a Region B release. Maybe there might be one at some point for Region A.

I figured this might be the best thread for this post but I might try other threads. ANYWAY.

There's a bootleg Japanese Spider-Man set floating around from various dealers on ebay and off. Do any of you nerds have it and/or know if these are of any reasonable quality? There was an official DVD release in Japan but it's pretty old and very expensive if you can find it. Plus I don't think it has English subtitles. Basically I'm wondering if there's a bootleg set sourced from those DVDs or if I can just expect to receive lovely torrents burned to disc.

You might try the Tokusatsu megathread in ADTRW for folks with better expertise here.

There was at one point a Region A release but I think it's out of print. I think the movie was bankrolled by Amazon and it must not have sold well physically since they never printed any more.

Edit: It is still watchable on Prime though.

My Third Window Films import from that Arrow sale just came in. With the exception of the Ujicha release, shockingly cheap packaging - all the blurbs on the back of the boxes are written in Arial font, for example. Still, if the movies are good that's all that matters.

Amazon is doing some weird stuff with pre-orders recently

I had a pre-order say it wasn't going to ship until like two weeks after release so I cancelled it and reordered just to see if the date was the same and it changed to release day shipping then shipped on release

Should catch up on some recent arrivals from September and October

Finally got As Good as it Gets, ended up with both the original Twilight Time and more recent Imprint editions (thanks, Thatoaklandkid) and, as I always suspected, much prefer the TT. Something about Imprint just rubs me wrong and especially for this film their aesthetic just doesn't vibe for me. Got both at reasonable prices and will be giving the Imprint to mum so it's all good.

Little baby Kino haul

Broke down and bought a slipless bookletless Climax; patience paid off and Coneheads was released in NA; finally bought the original 2008 BD of Munchausen roughly 3 seconds before Criterion announced their new 4k; and I've no loving memory to who or what turned me on to Quiet Days but it arrived in a frisky slip

(Uncensored :nws: image)

Two more to be checked off the "I can't believe I haven't seen this yet" list; a true crime doc that seems interesting (and was cheap) enough for me to overlook my disdain for the genre, and B&B because idk why not.

And this loving thing. It was $30 but Grub shipped it in an envelope and it was crushed to poo poo.

Which was especially frustrating, as it was the same price at Amazon but I ordered from Gruv specifically because they shipped my first Hitch set safely in a box earlier this year. It took several haggling emails to get them to send a replacement without waiting for the return, and they ended up letting me keep it, which was not my goal, but the replacement was also shipped in an envelope and was crushed.

It's not as badly damaged as the first but it's not going on the shelf. Figure I'll sell them off cheap and try buying a copy from a private seller who can be arsed to give a toss.

Speaking of.

Funny that CPL did a better job packing a free movie. Thanks brother.

I'm glad it arrived in good shape. I'm very frequently on both ends of sending and receiving records and movies so I've got a decent amount of knowledge as to the weaknesses of media mail and how best to package poo poo so it survives the trip. I also have a lot of packaging material laying around because I reuse poo poo. Anyway, I was a bit miffed that the postal worker put the sticker over the dinosaurs. The usual guy makes sure not to cover them but I got a trainee.

Those paper padded mailers are absolute rear end.

I had to send back Meaning of Life and it was fairly painless, and the replacement from Gruv was fine.

The number of retailers who ship well is hilariously low though, it's a bummer. I'm about to order directly from criterion this next sale in the hopes that I won't get a mangled digipak (phase these out already ffs)

I've had stuff come to me from the UK to the US in one of those lightly padded envelopes and it was fine. And yet on the occasions where there was a problem is was domestic mail. Likewise with records. I've gotten poo poo sent to me from Germany in some pretty scary containers and it was fine.

Sorry, I'm quite busy at the moment.
Vinegar Syndrome has started giving out hints for their two Secret Surprise Titles for their Black Friday sale:

quote:

As always, we aim to shock and delight with each surprise release and you can be rest assured that this time will be no different as we present two never-on-Blu bloodbaths! First, traversing one of our favorite genres, the 80s slasher, we're proud to be bringing a SoCal deep cut, which hasn't seen a video release in over two decades, to Blu, complete with a brand new feature length making-of doc! And, as the centerpiece of the sale, debuting on both Blu-ray and UHD, we'll be offering a star studded sleaze fest that has been flooring audiences for decades and is at last getting the release it deserves... Watch for more mouth watering hints in the coming weeks.

Any guesses?

Is VS worse in America or something? My Canadian orders (which ship from Canada so maybe that explains it?) always seem to ship before or on the street date.

I’m so loving sick of hearing about the translucent slips (not just here) I hope they never do anything like it again lol, I do hope that whatever that item is it’s worth it! I wonder if it’s a tie in with The Invisibke Maniac release?

If anyone else out there managed to also avoid the 126 SKUs that already exist, a UHD evil dead 1 & 2 combo pack released yesterday. Amazon dropped the price on release to 18, so 9 bucks a disc/film and some saved shelf space.

Now I just wait out AoD until someone drops more then one cut on UHD in one release
