Last Command is really neat. Some of the area navigation takes too long without being incredibly interesting or challenging, and I found myself skipping through dialogue, but the meat of the game is the boss battles (of which there are many) and the execution is great. They're very much hand-crafted and bespoke with lots of unique fourth-wall, UI breaking gimmicks and cool visuals that remind of some of the better fights in Undertale. Don't get too scared off by "bullet hell", the game isn't very tough at the median difficulty and there's an easier "story mode" difficulty option available too.

Hmm perhaps I missed it then because I didn't get much at all, a bit of information about crewing and resource collecting but almost nothing about how different ship elements interact with each other. That then caused me to get bored as well as the fact that it's mainly just resources, stations and hostile ships but not a lot of ways to interact with them. I do like the look and how they set up the ship creation though, I bet some really cool creations are possible. To each their own and maybe I'll put in some more time to figure it out later

DEVELOPER'S MESSAGE
It's difficult for me to write this "overview", because I do believe that Saturn Quest: R. U. N. E. 3000 is one of the best video games ever created. It's my game number 10 and it's the first time I feel this way about my own work. I DO believe this work is genius. And honestly it's all I want you to know at this point. But, of course, it's my personal opinion and yours may be completely different. So I do recommend you to keep reading this "overview" and also read the game's 8-page manual (on you right). It explains the game's mechanics to some extent.

FEATURES
- [ACTION-RTS [A.R.T.S.]]
ACTION-RTS battle system is a unique hybrid of multiple genres (more than 2 (or even 3)). Imagine this combination as a base:
-Start with your classic Zelda-style Boss Arena
-now add some very simplified RTS (Real Time Strategy) mechanics similar to classic strategy games like Dune 2 (but again - very simplified - please, don't expect deep strategy on a one-screen "Boss Arena"... yet!).

There are 10 ARTS Battles in total (in R.U.N.E. 3000).
There are 7+ more battles in other styles.

- [MINI-GAMES / MODES]
Variety. Saturn Quest has variety. More than 10 game-play modes and their combinations, different perspectives, forms, space ships, etc!

Note: variety and quantity are two different words. SQ R3000 is not a long game. It's "wide", not "long".

+ - Asystematic Game-Design (If you have never heard about it - it's all right! Nobody's using it! ...but I do.

Have played it. Cannot recommend. Basically a not that good walking simulator about a evil secret society mystery with an incredibly dreadful voice actor (though the german one was unintenionally hilariously bad, just no emotion whatsoever, regardless of whatever had been found) and a very bizarre plot thread that does not really make you care about any of the characters. Motion Blur can be turned down very much but the menu is just...not that good.

I don't like it when you're watching me eat.

Tried the demo, and it's a (harder?) portal style puzzler. You wake up inside a "testing facility" where you get access to a mad science gun that allows you to manipulate time/space. Oh, and there's an AI built into the gun that maybe isn't out to get you, but is very secretive about what is really going on at the facility.

The puzzle mechanics felt less intuitive than portal because you are playing more with space and time, but the time mechanics only apply to either set piece environmental objects (reverse time on this pile of rubble and it reforms into a walkway so you can continue) or puzzle specific objects (cubes, jump pads, probably others). And the time mechanics revolve around physically moving these puzzle objects with the gun in the "on" position to record their position in space over the span of a 30 second time limit. Then you move you character to where you need to be, point your gun at the box, and hit the rewind button, and the cube moves backwards through time. You can pause this rewind action, so it will pause the cube in a specific point through it's trip, but you cannot replay it forward again. So not only do you have to plot the path of the object through space to be at certain points at certain times, but you also have to kind of plan it out backwards. Again, for me it's harder than portal.

I might sound like I'm down on the game, but what I got through was actually a pretty fun time. It's very clearly trying to be the next portal, but that's not a bad thing. There are way worse games you could try and ape from, and if you are going to steal, steal from the best. Speaking of at the end of the demo there's a highlight reel that shows what future levels will contain, and another thing they seem to have pulled from portal are cute robot defenses, though these appear to be more mobile than the portal turrets. If the full game is out I'll probably pick it up at some point.

I gave this a shot, but the main puzzle mechanic's function is pretty garbage. I press and hold down left click, it should rewind the time for a given object, if I let go of left click, it should stop. I'd say 3/4 of the time that I wanted it to stop, it would just keep on barreling past me letting go of the left click button to "pause" the rewind, or ignore when I press Q to have it just outright stop the rewind altogether and drop whatever it was that I was trying to use. It's a neat concept, but I'm not going to replay an entire puzzle over again just because the main puzzle mechanic isn't responding to my inputs and resets my progress.

Thought this was going to be a remake of the From Software joint production of ChromeHounds but I guess that world would be too perfect

Dave the Diver just launched into EA:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1868140/DAVE_THE_DIVER/

It has been fun so far, pretty much an ideal Steam Deck game. You are a diver helping your friend run a sushi restaurant. There are two main sections of gameplay: diving, spearfishing, and exploring the “blue hole”, a part of the ocean with a randomized layout each time you go in, and then a light restaurant management in the evening where you sell sushi made from the fish you caught.

The diving section feels like a little roguelite, mostly centered on chill exploration and gathering. You have an oxygen meter which doubles as your health, and go swim around spear fishing, collecting oxygen to extend your time underwater, and finding gear/materials. You have a harpoon plus some sort of weapon. Most gear you collect is just for that run, but each time you collect a weapon on a run you get closer to being able to unlock it permanently from the start. There are some dangers/hostile fish- at least enough to keep it interesting- but that’s not really the main focus. The harpoon is your main tool, spear fishing mechanics are satisfying if straightforward- press once to begin to aim in a limited arc, then shoot. Once you’ve caught on maybe do a *small* mini game depending on your harpoon upgrades (eg press a button sequence), and then reel it in. Weapons have a bit more variety in their effects, and can be focused on helping you harvest fish for money (eg a tranq) or helping you fight dangerous fish (eg a gun). Once you’ve collected as many fish etc as you can, you go back up.

Then you get to the sushi restaurant part, where you sell sushi made from the fish you catch. You assemble a menu of a few items based on what you caught, so there can be some strategy around choosing the best fish to catch and then serve. You can also upgrade the restaurant a bit with extra waitstaff etc. Mostly it’s a few small mini games and rushing back and forth to deliver food. Definitely secondary to the diving sections, and the diving is where you spend most time, but still fun.

Then the money you make from sushi either is invested back into staff etc or into getting upgrades for your dive suit- eg extra oxygen, ability to dive deeper, etc.

Overall it’s a fun loop and I’ve liked it a lot as a mix of chill roguelite underwater exploration and light management game. Also a big fan of the graphics, with 2D characters on 3D backgrounds. It’s still in EA, but not in terms of polish. It sounds like it’s more that the main story will stop prematurely, but I’m not there yet and some reviews mention 15+ hours and still not capping out 🤷🏻‍♂️.

I actually played pretty deep into it. It's good! Not in all ways, but it's unique and interesting at least.

The combat is a little weird, but still threatening especially since it can be pretty easy to run out of necessary materials. So sometimes discretion is best. Story is interesting as are the characters. Performance could be a lot better, it's a pretty decent looking game but I had the occasional jumps and judders of framerate which shouldn't be the case on my setup. Relatively simple puzzles but they do require some thinking and decent gameplay to address. Overall a pretty impressive double A kind of title, a kind of puzzle plus horror plus combat that we've definitely seen before but which was done quite well here.

The Doors series has been on mobile for forever and I've played all of em, they make a good little time waster game for a few bucks. That looks to be all 3 of the games available on mobile, not just Doors: Paradox, which is only like $5 on mobile, so price is about right. Not as good as The Room and its sequels, it's pretty basic minipuzzles, but pretty decent if you have an afternoon to kill
