That commercial is all that I hate about true crime distilled into a syrupy black liquid. Everything outside of Casefile and occasionally Criminal is loving tasteless dreck.

I set up Overcast (legit app btw, if you’re on iOS) to use skip track forward as fast forward 60s and skip track back to rewind 15s. The only ads that gently caress me up are the ones that Robert records.

Yeah, I used to only get the generic ones for eons even in the US but lately I've been getting a bunch of local election ads so iHeart must've finally got some harvested data about me.

I use a VPN, but I just use Chicago as my cover, so I get interesting ads for local live theatre performances in Chicago. Of course weirdo podcast listeners would be interested in jumped up musical dinner theatre.

In Australia all I get 2 types of ad:
1. A targeted ad for Australians about a new movie, a university or a bank. These are always read by the same lady, no matter what is being spruiked.

2. An ad for another podcast. Either the one about the loud autistic lady or a show hosted by a literal teen.

The thing about most, not all, but a significant majority of the iHeart podcast adverts is that the commercials make me less likely to want to check the other podcasts out.

Advertising a podcast seems tough. I subscribe to a ridiculous number of them, I am a podcast guy (:rip:), but I have never in my life heard an ad for a podcast that made me want to listen to it.

I have, exactly once, checked out a podcast based on the Ad, and it was because the actual premise of the show was unique enough for me to see if it was any good. But generally the quality of the host and material is more important to me than the specific premise, and an ad can't convey that well.

My favorite podcast ads are the one where two people come on, say how they are good friends with a great chemistry that they just had to bring to a podcast, and now they are going to talk culture, politics, pop culture, Hollywood, and whatever else comes up.

And then they laugh and end the ad without ever giving me a reason to care unless i already knew them or liked their voices

I have heard an infinite amount of boring dude podcasts like that, but there have been a lot more of those with two women in the past few years, especially who bonded over true crime, and now, the ones i hear the most are targeting a minority group

Did i say favorite, i mean i fuckin hate those ads

Ghost Church got on my radar from ads, but I already liked Jamie Loftus from BtB and I didn't actually pull the trigger on downloading it until I got around to listening to the Madam Blavatsky episode a few weeks ago. That's the closest I can think of

I used to not know what to make of Jamie Loftus. I got that she was talented, but I couldn’t figure out her schtick. I looked up her work history and stuff and I’m now fairly certain she’s doing an Andy Kaufman on Gamer Gate Chuds.

Or she’s not and I’m a cringey rear end in a top hat. Either way, I’ve grown to enjoy her appearances.

"Rudy Giuliani gives insight on leadership, courage and the most pressing issues of our time."
