I don't think he was trying to manipulate her. I just think he wanted everything to be just right when he asked her and that he didn't want there to be people around making noise, shouting or laughing in the background. He was putting it all on the line right there and he just did everything he could have to make it go the way he hoped and pictured when he was planning it in his head.. She wasn't exactly overwhelmed with the money he spent for it, in fact she kinda teased him for buying the stupid tent.

seriously omg that this show can give us such a hot streak of wildly comic episodes and then pull out some domestic drama like it’s never done before and have it be equally good I think this season is the best one
