They absolutely do, and I have no idea why this kind of control is not more popular. If it was, it would probably literally cut the overdrive pedal business in half, because cutting out low end from the guitar is mostly what overdrive pedals do to tighten things up anyway, which is the reason most people use OD pedals in the first place.

Reading up on the PTB controls it sounds like they both share the same key ingredients of a treble bleed circuit and a bass roll off control.

In Reverends words:

"This passive bass roll-off is great for tightening up the low end, or re-voicing the pickups. It can make a humbucker sound like a single-coil, or give a P-90 that classic twang."

It's such a brilliant bit of circuitry. When I finally get round to hot-rodding a cheap guitar, I'm definitely going this route.

My Hondo G&L F-100 copy has the dual tone controls mixed with phase and coil split switches. The wiring looks like this

There's like 10 capacitors in that mess related to the tone controls as well as switches for phase and coil splits. None of it works, and I'm afraid of it.

It is a small price to pay for the tone enhancing qualities of having a Great Old One under the pick guard.

I've often thought about building some monstrosity of a guitar with crazy options like that, to make a guitar that basically does everything.

- two humbuckers and a single coil in the middle
- standard 5-position pickup selector
- treble bleed circuit
- three knobs: volume, tone, bass cut
- no-load tone pots
- Both humbuckers get their own mini 3-position switches with "full humbucking / parallel coils / single coil" modes
- push/pull knob that activates the neck pickup so you can have everything on all at once in position 2, and a tele-style "bridge and neck" setup in position 1

If I took all that to a tech and asked him to do it, I wonder how hard he'd punch me in the face.

This may be a stupid question, but is your average tone pot actually just a treble cut, or is there something more going on?

I know it's not totally the same but it sounds like you want Josh JHS man's Bilt guitar that has like 5 different pickups

My amp also has a tone knob which seems weird when it already has full EQ but it feels like it has a bit more finesse than the tone pots on my guitars so I've found it useful to help fine tune my very bright single coils

Yes, in an electric guitar it is usually a treble cut. The attached capacitor only allows treble frequencies through to the path to ground, and turning down the knob turns down the electrical resistance before the capacitor, therefore letting more signal reach the capacitor.

In pedals or active preamps a knob labeled “tone” could be doing other things.

Yeah right? As far as I can tell my payment has gone through but I haven't received tracking yet. So either I'm getting a hella cheap Microcosm or I just threw some money down a hole.

There have been a few things like this that I've seen lately here in Japan where someone established a price on something back when the JPY was worth about 0.91 cents, and never updated that price now that the JPY has fallen into the toilet.

Yeah, 2 of them popped up and after I bought mine the other vanished pretty quickly. I search "eurorack" in amazon warehouse deals just about daily and have bought quite of bit of stuff there like my niftycases and half my patch cables. Took a while, but I've finally rebuilt my setup past where I was at when it all got jacked, feels good. Got the Virus running into it's own mixer to save ports on the Mackie, gonna have to play around with the patch EQ settings though to see if I can get a decent mix, at least for putting together ideas and stuff. Got a Beatstep Pro on the way too, should have been here Tuesday but a seller mixup led to it getting sent to Canada by mistake lmao. I think I'm actually good on gear for a while now though, only thing I'm not sure on is how well I can get the Electribe sequencer working alongside the BSP, would like to be able to throw some polyphonic sequences into the mix that way. Otherwise, might have to get a Keystep Pro down the line.

I had no idea the last lineup of EVH instruments Eddie approved included a whole line of 5150s without the stripey paint jobs and single pickups. The 5150 Standard comes with a quarter-sawn maple neck, ebony fretboard, EVH Wolfgang electronics with kill-switch, top-mounted EVH Floyd with D-Tuna (love this thing.)

It looks sick as gently caress and sounds sicker. How did I sleep on this guitar? It's an honest-to-god basswood 5150 without the stripes. Made in Mexico, where Fender is also making those great San Dimas reissues. This 5150 is almost exactly like a Kramer '84 reissue or a new San Dimas, it's solid as gently caress and the little features like the low-friction volume pot and 12-16" compound radius neck are just loving sweet.

These guys are $1,099 new but I made an $800 offer on a new factory B-Stock and here it is. It's shockingly amaze-balls. I never really liked playing the Wolfgangs. I love this motherfucker.

I never played a proper pick-scratch until I tried one on the bridge Wolfgang pickup. Jesus, man. This guitar is a monster and it only weighs 7.9 lbs. And yeah, I am putting the red 5150 decal on it as soon as it gets here.

Now, I don't know how controversial this might be (if at all) but EVH does offer the actual 5150 decal from the production guitar and I intend to place one like this mock-up I did to think about it. I'm sure others have done it too but I think I like it:

My reasoning is as follows: I do truly love EVH and even though I gave up on the band after OU812 I have desired many of his replica and production guitars. Just never got one since people see my JEM and automatically type me as a Vai player, which I am not. The JEMs were production guitars, not replicas. I don't want my EVH guitar to be a replica, just a great Frankie/5150 copy that sounds right for all the VH. This guitar does that. I can't get over how light it is. It is so sexy.

P.S. - This is still not the November Surprise that is almost here from Gyna. Should be here the 18th. I hope it's not garbage! We'll find out together.

P.P.S. - Took this thing to a "strings-only session" with my bassist tonight and it's badass beyond words. Cranked through the Atomica model with dual detune it it just nails the tones. And this neck, omg. Wow.
