quote:

Trump’s disappointment was palpable inside the gilded ballroom at his Mar-a-Lago estate, where he gathered with dozens of aides, allies and donors to watch returns on Tuesday evening. When he returned to the party halfway through the night following a private dinner, his mood had visibly shifted.

“Interesting evening,” he shouted to reporters before taking the stage for brief and unenthused remarks.

As the crowd dwindled, Trump sat at a table in front of a television tuned to Fox News with just a handful of advisers. Meanwhile, several guests whose names appeared on a VIP list that one Trump adviser circulated to reporters were nowhere to be found, including some who apparently decided to skip the event – surfacing as television pundits throughout the night from studios elsewhere in the country.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/09/politics/gop-midterms-trump-2024/index.html

Some his invitees skipped the bash and he probably had to watch them on TV instead of attending his loving gala inject directly into my veins. :circlefap:

Election adjacent.

What is everyone's thoughts on fleeing a state due to election results? I'm really torn on this.

On one hand, I get it. You want to live somewhere that has laws/politics that you agree with. On the other hand, isn't that just giving the opposition more power and screwing the people that didn't get out?

It feels like the GOP has figured this out. Just look at all the whack jobs that show up at school board meetings and the like. They seem to stay in the liberal areas and manage to amplify their message. (One of these guys managed to get into a local school board to our surprise)

On the flip side, it is always left leaning people/spaces I see declaring they are leaving for greener pastures.

Why is this? Am I just noticing another version of doomsaying?

Also, yes, I understand that some are simply fleeing due to specific policies (usually abortion and/or pot). Those people tend to be very quiet about their reasons for leaving though and don't "broadcast" it as much.

Running away from a failed state is heavily context dependant. Somalia, for instance, has limited ability to inflict evil on the world at large. A fascist United States, however, would be a global catastrophe. I shudder to think what a truly expansionist USA would attempt if the nation became completely divorced from any morality at all. Leaving the US would grant you only temporary safety, when the best thing you could do for humanity would be to stay here and fight against fascism.

Besides, I swore an oath to defend the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. The expiration date was attached to my contract of service, not my oath of enlistment.

Unless you were talking about leaving a state. Sure, fine, go hog wild. Enjoy the change of scenery.

Ralston estimates that Democrats would probably be safe at a 100K remaining amount in Clark, but it's 84K. So, probably going to end up a squeaker of some type, woo!

Edit: and if it's real real close, it could go all the way through NEXT Saturday. Mail-ins count if they're postmarked Tuesday, which means they can be counted until Saturday, then provisionals (5K in Clark) get counted and more curing goes on. Wheeee!

Problems look mighty small from 150 miles up.

They're also still counting a lot of the votes out west which will likely narrow the percentages in the end:

Things looked dicey for NV-SEN, but now all that's left is mail vote and she's currently clearing it at a 65-35 rate, which will probably net her around 30k to wipe out the 16k deficit. Probably not enough for NV-GOV, and the Democratic House gerrymander held up fine on the house races.

It’s bound to be a factor but determining the extent will require real analysis over weeks and months. After all, Florida killed a lot of their base but the GOP is stronger than ever there.
