People are super toxic in this game, for no actual reason, hot drat. It's been a while since I've been confronted with that. We were on defense first and it took about two deaths for the enemy tank to drop a "team diff" in chat, leading to them getting one point and several meters of payload distance before the timer ran out. Trash talked the whole time and got several flaming responses in return (amongst his own team)

only for them to turn around and stonewall us on their defense, winning by a couple meters because spam pinging "group up" and "fall back" prompts to our staggering dps/tank did nothing for me and the other support

last message: "team diff"

people have such ways with words in this game, i had a tank ask me when i was going to get my baby dick out of my mom and finally contribute to doing my job as dps because i was getting rocked by the enemy team once and then when i didn't give him a response resorted to baby talk about how it was ok, everyone needs to stop sucking on their mom's teats some day lol.

Been playing this with some friends (been a nice way to reconnect some with this guy I was friends with in elementary school). It's pretty fun, even though I'll never be very good at it. I like that there are options that don't require high FPS skills.

My favorite DPS is definitely Echo, mostly due to her right-click sticky bombs + flying being fun (and generally a pretty effective "avoid getting killed" button). Also looks like an iPhone lady. I hope I can get a fancy skin for her at some point. I just have some red recolor one I got with the 900 old currency I had (I didn't play the original Overwatch for more than like 5-6 hours total). Unfortunately it looks like currency is extremely slow to acquire in this.

For support, Moira seems pretty friendly for someone who sucks at aiming (me), since all her attacks seem to have some level of automatic targeting. I was playing as Zenyatta yesterday and kept getting owned by this Sombra, but I switched to Moira and could actually fight her (or any other DPS) off up close. The combo of her orb and beam does a lot of damage.

I've tried Kiriko, but she seems to have a much higher skill floor; her attacks are very hard to aim, and the attacks being mutually exclusive with her only direct healing adds an extra layer of complexity. I also obviously don't have the situational awareness and reaction time to use her invulnerability skill well (though I bet that's super powerful if someone is actually good).

in this match three of my teammates were doing the SOMBRA gently caress YOU SWITCH YOU ONLY HAVE 7K DAMAGE and all of them had died like 19 times apiece in two rounds. we held them in OT in the first push and hit the final gate with like four minutes remaining and they were, incredibly, so tilted that we lost every fight after that

note that the need to aim only really comes into play when you're trying to directly deal with flankers on the backline. for the most part, just spamming your kunai at roughly head height down a corridor towards a corner that enemies are likely to peek out from is great area denial whenever no one on your team needs immediate healing

protection suzu is extremely good against certain ults (d.va, reinhardt, junkrat), but it's difficult to time it just right when you take cast time, travel time, and latency into consideration - i've had more than a few instances of seeing it physically leaving my hands as reinhardt ults and then nothing happening because i lost the serverside diceroll. even on its own, though, it's a really good tool for saving teammates from focus fire: 1 second isn't a lot of time, but someone can eat a whole lotta bullets in 1 second, so just being perceptive as to when someone is low and exposed and tossing suzu at them can get you far

Last night was really weird, lost every game for like, 5 games before we got out of spawn because of dumb EU fights over people's accents (holy poo poo, lol, i'd forgotten about that).

Then I won the game when i decided "gently caress this" and went Pharah, even though we had a lucio/bap healer combo and the other team had hitscan players. Didn't die once on attack, only died once on Defence. This loving game is so weird sometimes.

Life, friends, is boring
I usually don’t play Kiriko but won us a payload map yesterday by switching to her with 25 seconds to go when my entire team minus the tank died in a team fight. Teleported back to our tank standing near the payload, healed him and then proceeded to blind luck fling blades at the three defenders trying to stop us, landing nothing but headshots. It was utter bullshit but it seemed like they couldn’t stop running right into my attacks. The opposing Reinhardt was quite tilted afterwards.

And then I lost the next three games in a row.

I'm sure some insane percentage (wouldn't even be surprised if it were as high as 80 or 90%) of people who play OW have no idea what space even is in both the physical sense, and the hyperbolic sense. Mark each time you end up in a game with a tank who just steadily backpaddles away from the objective while shooting the enemy tank, whom is slowly moving forward. You'll have a whole punch card full of marks at the end of the day.

An interesting thing to work on with Winston (both the dealing and receiving end) is to pay attention to how bubbles affect who can by healed by what, and what stuff they block. There is a lot more utility than simply a damage shield there to be worked with. On any tank, you should beware of how the enemy Winston is either intentionally, or unintentionally blocking your heals from getting through.

So when I'm playing support and the enemy team has a Widow popping heads and the tank/DPS players adamantly refuse to switch to counter her, what are my options? Most of the time she's got height behind enemy lines and I just don't have the mobility to get to her, so I'm reduced to just throwing some poison orbs her way as she'll easily outsnipe Ana.

Finally got my 20-kill streak last night with Orisa - I absolutely love her new moveset (despite the absolutely awful ult) and nothing makes me happier than javelin-spin-blocking a cascade of projectiles while my team causes mayhem behind me.

you play kiriko and outsnipe her, because you throw 120 damage kunais, can wiggle at full speed while shooting, and are constantly blocking your head with your ofuda hand

you don't even have to get the kill a lot of the time because 99% of widows will immediately panic and scooby doo run away as soon as you get a single headshot

I have a bunch of terrible strategies:

1. Zen Orb Barrage
2. Bap using Lamp
3. Moira hard flank

Moira one actually has given me the most success at my level, and I see people like ArcX or whatever his name is do it in GM.

Realistically, the only options are to out snipe her or flank her, and the Support category has a lot of ways to support and enable others doing that but very little designed for the Support players themselves.

If you're playing support against a good widow the best play is to usually just not give her an angle and focus on keeping your team up and pinging her location non-stop till they handle her. If it's a bad widow then yeah, go aggro but dying to her is a way worse trade as support.

it's plenty fast and again, critically, can be fired while wiggling at full speed at someone who must, by nature of their hero, zoom in and slow their ms to a crawl to do their job

if you're up against the son of s1mple then yes, sure, don't do it, but A) you're probably not going to run into them in your average game and B) telling your team "make sure to not die to widow" as the alternative is not an especially effective solution

The thing here is that the said projectile also has no arc, is huge, and can be spammed quickly and safely. In addition to this, the target is widow, who has a gigantic head, moves like a slug while charging scope and is often separated from their support in such a way they won't get instantly healed.

You won't necessarily kill the widow, but if you can suppress them so that they can't do their job while still doing yours, you win that exchange.

Yeah if it’s a good Widow I make it a point to never peek and ping her location. Yes, I’ve managed to kill Widows with charged volleys, but the success rate isn’t high enough to be worth the gamble. If it’s a lovely Widow, I’ll spam her with balls until she moves.

the other critical part of kiriko's countersniping is that she can get to angles that zen simply can't due to his groundbound nature, which can significantly equalize duels in her favor

hell, you can even take infra-sight duels if you know her exact position and suzu yourself before rounding a corner, but that's generally too high risk even for me

how do they work?
Worth noting that sometimes the answer to "my team is getting bodied" is legitimately just "yeah, whatever, practice something you want to work on and mentally go to the next game".

If a widow is headshotting the gently caress out of your team, either because they're smurfing hard so your team doesn't know how to counter them, or your team is just not in the mood to think about not peeking her, as one support player you're not going to do much. As a dps you could maybe try to outduel her and as a tank you can block her LOS, but its widow, she requires a team effort to shut down because it just takes one person being stupid to snowball a fight into a loss because they got picked early by a headshot.

Same kinda applies to sojourn, tbh.

At silver my main two approaches to a dominating widow are switch to lucio and force a 1v1 which i am technically likely to win or if im not succeeding at that or simply feel not capable of doing so, hit moira and deny her space with poison balls and try to keep my team up from cover using fade to cross riisky sightlines
