I've been seeing a lot more of those images that censor even the mildest naughty word lately. What service is driving this? I'd assume TikTok but that is video so it doesn't explain the censored pictures.

Because a lot of social media sites pull the text from images via OCR and also check it for profanity, and profanity affects your algorithmic performance. A lot of the ways people communicate online are basically appeasing the machine gods who dispense arbitratry but mysterious punishment about which we can only speculate.

Last night I watched a video about maternity clothing from the 1400s to the 1800s that gave a trigger warning for miscarriage, but it was censored in both the subtitles (misca**iage) AND the audio by the poster. The pinned comment was an explanation that this was not because the poster thought the content should be censored, but because YouTube demonitises the subject.
