made a new youtube account for posting guitar videos. here's something from one of the great guitar bands, Spoon - "The Fitted Shirt" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDDDZ7tqY5I this was way harder to play & sing than i thought it would be, it's some crazy 3 against 2 rhythm for most of the song

has the neck joint on a stratocaster always been this incredibly uncomfortable? why the hell did they just leave it as a big fat rectangle? and people have just been okay with this the whole time???

If you can be more specific about what you're looking for threads like this can be more helpful. Was browsing a local site this morning and found they had the yellow Ibanez JEMJRSP on sale, did some reading on this and it gets mixed reviews stating the bridge is terrible and the pickups average. This lead me to look at RG550s instead and I found a used MIJ RG550 with different neon-coloured pickup covers (which I love!) on our local eBay-type site for a few hundred less than the cheapest one on Reverb. Anyone played either of these guitars? I'm assuming MIJ RG550 > MII JEMJRSP when the difference is ~$450.

That's the impression I get so far regarding offset 7-strings, I saw a Schecter "Jaguar" seven string on an old Reddit post which leads to some now broken links, I think it's a parts-caster (parts-uar?) or some kind of limited run, doesn't seem to be a current part of the range. I'm thinking I like offsets for comfort generally but there really doesn't seem to be many available stock. I think I really need to handle some 7-strings before going too much further, do they necessarily need wider necks? Perhaps I can mod some 6-string? I actually got distracted and started looking at the Robert Smith signature Ultracure, although in the end it seems to be an upgraded Jazzmaster that's been left in the sun (like the opposite affliction to Robert Smith) So maybe I should look at a modded JM type, although I'm pretty sure going 7-string rules out a Bigsby.

Listened to an acoustic version of Sure Thing by Miguel, and I was really enjoying the guitar chords I was hearing. Miguel's guitarist posted a tutorial for the song a while ago: https://youtu.be/lOzfxhRSXX8?t=75 Chords are Dmaj7, F#m, C#m, Bm. Picked up a couple new (to me) open-string voicings from this video, and I think they sound great. Dmaj9(13)/A: 554600 F#m(add9,add11): 2x4204

Dr. Faustus posted:You do not want a JEMJr under just about any circumstances. I tried out a couple Jem Jrs at the local store and man I was not impressed. Cruddy finish (very rough fret ends and fretboard felt dry as tinder) and meh sound. Was shopping for a suitable guitar for my nephew who wanted to get something "decent" but not expensive. Ended up with a GRG121DX which felt and played way above expectations. Not sure if they are generally that good or if we just got lucky but it had very good attention to detail and sounded great. In other guitar related news: Been jonesing for an old Marshall for a while. Used to have one when I started playing back in the late 80s though I can't for the life of me remember the exact model. Extensive googling and Youtubing has led me to believe it was a 2203 or a Plexi, 2203 being the more likely one. Anyway, they are loving expensive these days (back then they were very affordable) and you're getting some pretty well aged electronics so likely want to have one that's been worked over a bit. While looking for candidates I came across a Plexi-like clone made by a small cottage manufacturer in Poland (Mad Dog amps); apparently commissioned as a one-off by a guy here in town who wanted a "new" Plexi with lower output. After owning it for a while he finally caved and bought a real vintage one and offered this one up for sale. Paid $350 which I think was a pretty fair deal; it sounds outstanding and seems to be well put together. Point to point soldering and all that, and nice feeling controls. 5W output which is enough for my intended use. So now I am shopping for a suitable OD pedal for it. May acquire a few and see what works best. Surprised at how little noise there is. I was expecting some more hum and poo poo but the drat thing's quieter than my Grandmeister 36. I've never played one though so I wasn't sure if they are worth the price people are asking on Reverb. There's actually a late 80's/early 90's MIJ RG on my local craigslist that I saw just this morning. Dude wants $450 for it since its pretty hagard looking and has a bunch of stickers on it but looks like it would be a pretty sick project guitar. Maple neck, gotoh tuners, double locking trem, HSS with a Seymour Duncan in the bridge. Yeah, I think typing out this post I might just throw him an offer... A friend of mine just dropped off her Fender P-Bass Lyte. She hasn't played in years and years and there's a bunch of corrosion on the hardware and frets. I've never tried to do a fret polish myself, anything I should know or any good tips? They're pretty grungy. Also, I don't know much about these basses but it looks pretty dope with a sunburst finish and gold bridge and tuners and it really is light as hell. No idea what it sounds like yet since the strings are 35% rust by volume and the active pickups have a dead battery but a quick read around the internet seems to indicate that most people replace the stock actives with passives. Might spend some time this weekend trying to get it cleaned up. NonzeroCircle posted:I had a jam with someone who has a JCM900 last week. Thing is downright offensive (in a good way). I think modding a 6 string isn't worth it unless you wanna spend more money on a pretty janky guitar than necessary. you could do it, but you'd need really really narrow string spacing and be limited in what gauges you could use. at that point I'd just tune a 6 down to B standard. or pull a weirdo tuning like BADGBE https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BrodPHT7MBL--jackson-pro-series-signature-chris-broderick-soloist-ht7-metallic-blue there's these, but they're not really the offset you're looking for i think edit again: https://reverb.com/item/60803713-schecter-ar-series-ar-07-mh-black-rosewood-made-in-japan how's that one? muike fucked around with this message at 21:22 on Nov 12, 2022 |
