The part about automated systems is speculation. It could also be a power play to control what goes into Twitter. We know there are significant fights happening internally so someone might have just pulled the switch. Either the Musk faction who doesn’t trust the old Twitter employees and think they’re incompetent, or the Elon stans from his other companies are pushing such poo poo code that the infra team was tired of them breaking poo poo

All the Elon firing news makes me really appreciate working in a lumbering, byzantine, publicly traded corporation. Could I get fired in 2023 if the recession continues apace? Yes. Could I get fired not for cause, but rather because the shareholders demand mass sacrifices for Number? Almost assuredly. Will I see it coming and have time to prepare? Most likely. If I get fired will the CEO himself let me know day of via an emoji laden Tweet and clumsy repurposing of the Press F to Pay Respects meme? Probably not.
